D'oh!

Was looking forward to the monitor today but I doubt it'll arrive today. I have no idea why they decided to send it from Heathrow to Maidstone and then back to Heathrow before going to Gatwick. I'm actually in Ilford (North East London) so it makes no sense to me. I guess there aren't any sorting facilities near me.

Status of return: The return monitor has been stuck in customs for about 5 days now (from Friday till now) which is probably due to me obtaining the wrong telephone number from the seller. I was contacted by Parcelflight that DHL told them the recipient was not expecting any parcels. I messaged the seller and he provided me with the correct telephone number in which I had to pass back to Parcelflight.

Re: Shipping 12kg parcel to S. Korea?

Unlucky dude, I'm going to be ordering one too, maybe tonight.
I'll be going with the IPSI version of the Achieva Shimian, which is the newer version, there's still glass over the panel but it's under the bezel. The bezel also has a hairline (like brushed aluminium maybe?) design rather than glossy black and a white line around the edge, which I like. I'll be going with BCC (BigClothCraft), you have to go to his eBay profile page to look at items (they don't show up in searches for me) and it doesn't show the IPSI version but I've messaged him and he says he has them.
Are you going to be ordering another one then? To be honest I'd say the luck is on your side.
I'll be going with BCC as somebody else received a DOA monitor from him and he just gave them his DHL account to send it back (a same thing happened with Green sum apparently)!

Btw, did the guy mark it as a gift for you and what did he put the value down as, what fees did you face at customs? I think I'm going to get BCC to put down the real price, I'm scared of customs though (20% of value (£40) + other customs fees + courier handling fees).

Re: Shipping 12kg parcel to S. Korea?

I quite like the look of the IPSI version too, but decided the Crossover would probably be better. I also bought from BCC, you should get your monitor pretty quickly. There were delays in getting my Crossover dispatched as a lot of them were failing QC so they had to send it back to the factories etc. BCC's monitors do display, you have to select "Worldwide" on the option choices on the left.

For my Achieva Shimian I just let dream-seller mark the parcel as whatever he wanted to mark it as. Think he marked it as a gift with a value of $200. He didn't really ask me. BCC asked if it was ok to mark it as a gift and what value, as I was rather pissed with the last delivery, I just told him to mark it as the lowest possible value that he thought was fine and allowed him to mark it as a gift. Had to pay something like £12 this time in total whereas for the Achieva Shimian it was about £37 (around £26 for VAT and £11 or something for admin/handling fees).

Update on Crossover: After the tracking said it was waiting for payment, I ended up calling DHL. They said someone forgot to update the system to take note that I had paid, and thus my parcel hasn't been delivered today. They guaranteed that it will definitely be delivered tomorrow.. Well let's see. Much better than Parcelforce, but still far far away from perfect. If only the delivery companies' guarantees were actually true. At least RM will refund postage when it's not delivered within the timescale they quote. These big international courier companies just give a half arsed apology or a scripted/copy and pasted response.

That sucks. How long did the delivery take from BCC btw? I might ask if he can do extra packaging or something as I'm really worried (I don't want a hole being punched through the screen or something (with UK couriers I wouldn't be surprised)), was there anything else you mentioned in your message? (BCC asks a few questions, right?)

Edit: I know you haven't received it yet, I mean on what date did you place the order with BCC? Be sure to give us an update with plenty of pics! (I want to see packaging and stuff lol)

Re: Shipping 12kg parcel to S. Korea?

AFAIK, BCC doesn't wrap his monitors with bubble wrap.

16th June: Placed order
16th June: BCC sent this email:

Hello
Thanks for your order.
I am James in Computer department in our company.

For smoothing pass against custom,

1) May I mark item as gift?
2) How much price I put on invoice?

3) May I ask your model number of video card in computer?
-This monitor don't works with Mobile video card in Laptop and macbook.

4) May I check your phone number and address for express shipping service?
(Our company only use personal information for shipping)

I am sorry for bothering you.
best my question is for safest and fastest satisfaction of buyer.

I will hear from you.
Best REgards
Thanks
18th June: I received a tracking number but it didn't work
20th June: I asked why the tracking number still wasn't working
21st June: Received a reply saying that they book the delivery first but several Crossover 27Q LEDs weren't passing QC so they had a backlog of orders, hence they needed to send the units that passed QC to the customers who ordered first.
22nd June: Exchanged several emails these two days confirming the courier and QC procedure (I asked him to check that there were less than 5 dead/stuck pixels, no tinting/flickering/backlight issues and he reassured me his staff will check properly but told me that the Korean monitor companies were small so QC was weak, hence the wait. He then told me that my monitor was dispatched on the 21st already. When I checked the tracking later that night, it was already in Germany.
23rd June: It left Germany for India. (It's normal for packages to go around the world several times before arriving at destination AFAIK).
24th June: Left India and arrived in Heathrow. You can see what happened after that in the previous posts.

Ulti are you getting your £70 return postage refunded? I can see that as an issue with possible poor QC. Best of luck with this new one, i await your impressions with excitement i really want one

I should do. It seems the seller that I previously bought from no longer ships directly from manufacturer now, I guess there were issues with poor QC and he ended up having to refund postage to lots of buyers and hence he now checks the monitors AFAIK.

There haven't been any updates in the DHL tracking though.. Beginning to remind me of Parcelforce.

Btw mods, I'm not sure if this should still remain in General Discussion. It's your call though.

Just received my Crossover, opening it now.

EDIT: Success! No dead or stuck pixels, no major backlight bleed and no flickering! Pictures and full update later.

Re: Shipping 12kg parcel to S. Korea?

As promised, pictures:

Hmm, not sure how to get spoilers to work, seems they don't exist? I've tried
blablabla
but it doesn't work.

Well hopefully the pictures aren't too big:

A sheet of postage paper over the parcel:

Inside the parcel; plenty of foam padding:

White background check for stuck/dead pixels:

Black background check for stuck/dead pixels:

Setup and running:

The back:

Stand taken off:

VESA desk mount arm on:

On my desk now:

League of Legends on 1440p:

Notes:
- Packaging: If you order the Crossover, you definitely won't be needing any bubble wrap over the package as BCC has added a lot of foam inside, so you don't have to worry even if the box is punctured.
- Power adapter runs warm but not hot, similar to my power adapter for my PicoPSU. Haven't measured power consumption but I can if someone is really interested but these aren't the most efficient monitors, I think it was something between 50-100W.
- Build quality: No defects on mine, the whole thing seems to be made from metal, even the bezel! I thought the bezel would be plastic but I was proven wrong. The white paint on the back scratches off really easily though as when I was taking out the VESA stand screws it scratched the paint a little.
- Stand: It's better than the Achieva Shimian, but not by much. It does seem to weight a little more and it's even mounted in the VESA mounting holes so the monitor shakes less than the Achieva Shimian, but it does still shake.
- Image/defects: There are no major defects with the image, but it does seem more a bit more yellow than it is white. No dead/stuck pixels or flickering issues at all but there is what seems to be a mark in the lower bottom right hand corner if I look at the screen from the top. It's like there's a pressure mark on the screen but I'm not sure how to take a picture of it, I've tried all that I thought of. It's not really noticeable at all unless I put a whole white screen on and look at it roughly perpendicular from the top; quite weird but I'll accept that as the only defect and leave it there. I think a stuck/dead pixel would bother me more than that.
- Gaming: I don't play any FPS games so I can't comment on lag. I can tell you that I used to play LoL with the lowest shadow settings with about 50-60fps on 1080p but on 1440p, even with shadows off, the game runs on about 40fps.
- Setup: I didn't have to play around with anything, it was literally plug and play for me this time. I simply plugged in the dual link DVI cable into my DP to dual link DVI adapter and turned on my PC and it loaded up at 1440p (Windows 8).

If there are any other questions feel free to ask.

And once again mods, if you feel this belongs in "Monitor" or "Hardware", feel free to move it. Or I could repost this post there?

EDIT: Forgot to add the price; It's listed on eBay for $359.99 but I made an offer of $349.99 and it was accepted. I had to pay a total of £10.79 to DHL but they didn't send an invoice or anything so I can't actually see what I paid for VAT and what I paid for admin/handling charges. It seems the price has now gone up to $389.99.

Looks great. I so want to take the plunge on one of these.

Maybe you can reduce the yellow effect by tinkering in the AMD driver panel?

Re: Shipping 12kg parcel to S. Korea?

Yup I did so, reduced red and green as that forms yellow AFAIK (in RGB colours), seems to have done the trick but I think there's a bit of a yellow tint near the bottom of my screen, it's a bit hard to tell though because if I sit up a bit then the top looks the same as the bottom in terms of whiteness/yellowness. I think the way I've set the monitor up should be optimal though.

If you do order just remember that these aren't the top quality A+ or whatever panels, there's going to be some form of defect or another I guess. I'll take it that the defect with mine is the slight pressure mark and yellow tinting near the bottom.

Re: Shipping 12kg parcel to S. Korea?

Hmm I just did a quick search of the prices and noticed some differences in the prices. The Achieva Shimian and Yamakasi Catleap both dipped to $290 for a few weeks and the Crossover dipped to about $340 but they've jumped about $30-40 in the last week or so. Not sure why though.

Regarding yellow tint, that's almost certainly just caused by the fact it's a large monitor so your viewing angle isn't consistent! I often see the same thing even on wide-viewing angle monitors - monitor/seat height etc. is the only real fix for it. There are some LCD test sites you can use to help set up correctly eg:

Oo, that's pretty cool!

Thanks for the information about the yellow tinting; it makes sense I guess. I don't think I can sit anywhere else though as I'm used to looking at my monitor slightly straight up. I'll have a play with the website thanks.

Just an update on the original monitor (Achieva Shimian from dream-seller), I've received a full refund for both the original transaction plus the returns postage to him. He decided to test it himself and didn't return it to the Achieva factory so I basically received my refund a day after he received the monitor. Brilliant seller I must say!
