    Lightning

One of my colleages sent round a circular warning people not to carry umbrellas in thunderstorms. I suspected that, especially in the part of Central London where we work (tallish buildings everywhere), it was unlikely to make any difference. I was right:

The rest of the site is a very interesting read, but it's a bit disturbing to learn that there's pretty much nothing you can do to reduce your chances of getting struck if you're outdoors during a thunderstorm!

Yep but the chances of being hit by lightning are SO small then you shouldn't worry about it either.

If you are outside when a thunderstorm arrives find nearest pub and wait it out

In fact the above goes for any emergency situation.

Broken Leg - Go to pub
    Fire - Go TO Pub
Run Out Of Beer - Go To Pub

Retiring to the 19th hole is the best option, true. Waving your clubs in the air on your walk there will make precisely no difference to your chances of getting struck though.

When it stops raining have a look in all the bunkers for those cool glass thingies that get formed when lightning hits sand.

LOL, it is a bit OTT. Still, looks like he understands the science of lightning even if he's a creationist.....

Tell that to Lee Trevino lol

Yeah its probably a long running myth tbh. Incidentally did anyone see that footage last year of that footballer being hit in the middle of a televised match? very scary

A 14 year old boy died yesterday after being struck by lightening while camping in his garden ...so it certainly DOES happen! Scary really....

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
