It's Friday evening... pull up a brew and ponder the amazing nature of the explorer's of old.
Robert Scott's ship, the SS Terra Nova has been discovered off the coast of Greenland, (but bear in mind it was used for a long time after Scott used it.)
still, it's an important ship.. and the man was important too. I can't imagine planning such an expedition now in 2012.. but back in 1912 Scott and his team left Wales headed for the South pole, and of course we all know the Norwegians beat him and he died on his return home.
But this ship died in the middle of WW2 trying to get supplies to the Arctic (that's the top .. North) crews stationed up there in the cold.
Ships seem to last a lot longer in their useful life than other craft. That was a wooden ship.. not steel. She was made in 1888 in Dundee.
sit back in your warm chair, looking at your PC, car on the drive.. and ponder if you could make a ship from wood that would carry one of the most famous men in history and outlive him....
