WoW banned in Iran.....by the US government

    No refunds too:

    http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/forum/to...8?page=97#1933

It seems Blizzard waited for people to pre-order the latest version first:

    http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-832773

If they knew this, they should have told the players first??

    WoW,yearly subscriptions are not cheap.

    surely Blizzard are refunding anyone?

its no surprise to them, the rules about Iran are quite clearly laid down.

    Nope, no refunds.

What we can tell you is that United States trade restrictions and economic sanction laws prohibit Blizzard from doing business with residents of certain nations, including Iran. Several of you have seen and cited the text in the Terms of Use which relates to these government-imposed sanctions. This week, Blizzard tightened up its procedures to ensure compliance with these laws, and players connecting from the affected nations are restricted from access to Blizzard games and services.

This also prevents us from providing any refunds, credits, transfers, or other service options to accounts in these countries. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and will happily lift these restrictions as soon as US law allows.

Re: WoW banned in Iran.....by the US government

TBF,this is not really the US government's fault anyway. This is entirely Blizzard's fault - they were happily taking people's money, knowing fully well about this.

For a country with an average GDP of £8K per person,£80 to £100 is a lot of money.

What we can tell you is that United States trade restrictions and economic sanction laws prohibit Blizzard from doing business with residents of certain nations, including Iran. Several of you have seen and cited the text in the Terms of Use which relates to these government-imposed sanctions. So,Blizzard why didn't you tell your Iranian subscribers last week and then process refunds??

Truth be told, Blizard probably didn't care. I'd put money on someone applying pressure to them.

I'm not a huge Blizard fan, but they are hardly known for bait and switch tactics.

I somehow doubt all of a sudden in a week, they changed their stance.

There is a massive new expansion called the Mists of Pandaria being released soon - loads of the affected players pre-ordered it I suspect.

It is the first WoW expansion released in two years. It seems there is $20 million trade cap which Blizzard reached(looking at a few forum threads on the matter),and after that the freeze on accounts being able to access the game happened.

This is terrible, they obviously knew about it, and just took the people's money in any case.
Hopefully people can get refunds somehow.

At least the players can get usage of the product they paid for now. Blizzard's response has been totally crap TBH.

Re: WoW banned in Iran.....by the US government

To be fair, Blizzard provided refunds when Game Australia went bust and they refused to give a refund. Blizzard hasn't received any of the money - so they were paying out their own pocket!

I reckon it's more a US sanction which is stopping them refund, rather than poor customer service.

Thats disgusting from Blizzards part, they ought to make arrangements otherwise they will have alot of unhappy customers, especially if they've paid upfront for a year..

Why doesn't US or UK like Iran ? Because Iran promised to wipe off Israel ?
So does every other country in the area. Israel is like a bad-mannered teen

Then of course there's the complete nutcase in charge of Iran.

It could be Blizzard are prevented from sending the money back?
