Darts to be at the Olympics?

Seriously, listening to Radio 2 today they had some reigning world/british champion saying how darts should be an Olympic sport. And frighteningly he was serious. He tried to put forward the argument that it was a sport as you had to practise for weeks for a tournament, and you "sweat under the lights"!

Now is it just me, I thought the Olympic Games were for Athletes. And who would call darts a sport? It's a pub game innit?

Haha, I have to agree, though the hand eye co-ordination and maths skills have to be respected.
They hardly break a sweat unless it comes to 'training' in order to obtain the defacto beer gut!

Anyone remember that Not the Nine O'Clock news sketch with Fat Belly and Even Fatter belly where they had to drink booze?

Should tanning be an olympic sport too then? You would probably sweat if it was hot and sunny.

Lets start a petition to make tanning an olympic sport.

What maths skills would those be then? Remembering a limited number of combinations to know how to finish a game or being quickish at subtraction from 501 down does not maths skills make. All it is is practice, i am sure they remember most of it rather than using any mental effort.

Yeah, but should Snooker be classed as a sport? Anyone who says no to that doesn't understand the skill involved in it.
The point I'm making is where is THE LINE?
    Snooker - Yes
    Darts - No
    ?

if synchronised swimming can be classed as an olympic sport, then i dont see the problem with darts.

by the same token as synchronised swimming, why not allow some of those motorcycle display teams in? or maybe the red arrows... that would be pretty cool actually.

hmmm... i think i've not only lost the point of my post, i've forgotten it too.

    I'm going home now.

Synchronised swimming doesn't just require skill - its bloody hard too. It requires a lot from your body. A lot of darts players on the other hand look like they wouldn't be able to lifr their legs above knee level let alone over their heads. They don't hold breath for minutes either.

I suppose if they were throwing javelines into a target far away i could see it happening, but as it is - not likely.

Also a big part of the olympics is message to everyone to get fitter and enjoy sports. Message from darts - even if you are fat there may be something you might be good at. So go ahead have another pint. Which may help some people with their self confidence but is not something that will turn nations to healthy lifestyles (unless u see the fatties and think, i better diet or i will end up like them).
Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.
