Random Ebay Story no.5142 - "Buyer scams seller and eBay appear to do nowt"

Thought I'd share a recent eBay experience with you:

I sold a 2nd hand electric toothbrush on eBay with 20% going to charity..started @ 99p....well surprised someone paid £20 (including delivery for it).
The Buyer paid, I posted it.
The next day the buyer opened a complaint insisting the item was broken.
So I part refunded enough to cover postage and told them they could have a full refund upon return of the item.
The buyer said "I'm not going to return it" and left me negative feedback.
Upon checking the tracking info (recorded delivery) I realised the buyer had started the complaint the day before it had actually arrived.
So I challenged the buyer who closed the case and pocketed the £3.65 partial refund (automatically processed by eBay).
So what do you think eBay can do?

eBay said "On this occassion only we can cancel the negative feedback" and "we'll also report the buyer to our Trust department" but "sorry we can't do anything about the refund" as "Paypal is a different company".

Now if that's not a clear case of a dishonest buyer, backed up with proof...I don't know what is!

Typical eBay, they have their £1.40 final value fee and that's all their interested in.

I'm guessing they'll pass the buck to eBay as it's eBays resolution process that took the refund.

    Who was the buyer?

Also who would buy a second hand toothbrush, even if you change the heads that's just nasty.

I couldn't possibly say who the buyer was.
And I'm not sure what people use these for, I guessed car cleaning or such....but as a new one is about £12.50 from boots I'm confused

You'd be here all day if you added bad buyers...and you're limited to 5,000! I think I've got about 150 on my current list.
But seriously it's not appropriate for me to start labelling an ebay user as being a charity cash thieving so and so!
I think the chances of you cominga cross this particular individual are very very low.

Ebay have since removed all the negative feedback they've left on other poor buyers (e.g. Wouldn't deliver commented on a Collection only item!)

    1. In the future, Never refund even a penny before you get your item back.
    2. Take your mates and go see the buyer in person. Rest is up to you, use your imagination.

Re: Random Ebay Story no.5142 - "Buyer scams seller and eBay appear to do nowt"

I had a major problem with paypal. I won't go into details but, a transaction was made and the buyer payed via paypal on a credit card, they then proceeded to claim that the item had not been received when they were supposed to collect it. I had emails stating the time and date they chose to collect the item.

They never turned up and did not reply to my calls or emails. They did a charge back on the credit card and got the money back. I could have resold but the items were train tickets and although these were sold within the terms of paypal, I could not resell as the journey was over.

They arranged to collect the tickets the day before travel, so when they did not show up the tickets became worthless. I called them several times. The ticket were transferable but non-refundable.

Paypal said that they put a counter claim in with the credit card company but they never got back to me.

Disgusting. I constantly hear horror stories of buyers scamming sellers with Paypal's help, a particularly bad one was with an antique violin the buyer claimed was a forgery, Paypal told him to destroy it and he gloated about it. I've just done a quick search for the original article but Google is filled with stories about it now, not sure where the original one was...

Edit: I think this is it: http://www.regretsy.com/2012/01/03/from-the-mailbag-27/
