Apparently it's International Book Week. So it seems there is a game associated. And

The rules: Grab the closest book to you, turn to page 52, post the 5th sentence in this thread. Don't mention the title.

"I spent seven hours watching him trade"

Note the aim is people are intrigued by the sentence posted and end up searching - maybe finding a new book to pick up.....

"Who are you?" he asked, in a direct — and wholly un-Iranian — manner.

"Look, er, Mr Hobbs...' he began, but the medium cut him short."

EDIT : Had to change my first one as it wasn't showing on Google! It was Bored of the Rings : The Harvard Lampoon. Basically a comedy rewriting of Tolkiens awesome trilogy.

"Something snapped inside Donna's mind, an old familiar break that came when some part of her own hindbrain said 'no more'."

Edit - Like Ferral, the first one's didn't show up in google (or direct to frankly dodgy looking sites, many in Russian), they where from The Lost fleet by Jack Campbell.

The one above does however come up.

"Here, his instructor tutored him in the ways of blade and spell"

But if you google it, find it, and get into it, prepare to lose at least one full evening each week and several hundred pounds of your hard-earned

p.s. I had to cheat slightly as there are no "books" within easy reach of my desk - this is from the currently open pdf on my playbook, which is the nearest equivalent I could grab

EDIT: and of course, thanks to Hexus' high ranking in google's algorithm, search for any of the above sentences and you get this thread close to, or at, the top of the results!

"A great deal of politics had been channelled into housing activities, and since elected politicians were responsible for so little, from left to right they tended to articulate tenant grievances rather than apply themselves to the fundamental cause of those problems. "

Nearest book to hand when I first read this was the telephone directory.

    However next to it was

"Our sun is just an ordinary, average-sized yellow star near the inner edge of one of the spiral arms."

And from the book next to that...

"This was the first time he understood what Dilly's wartime work had been."

The announcement, made in June 1981, that Endurance was to be withdrawn had been opposed by the British Foreign Office for fear that it would send the wrong message to Argentina
