    Child Free Flights?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19728508

So a few operators are already having childfree sections.

But some of the thoughts people have about this just shock me, the lack of etiquette for flying. Myself I found myself bemused when reprimanding a 18yo for constantly opening the blind, its red eye ffs, but it was mostly a lack of experience on his part, he hadn't flown much.

I was once on a 13 hour flight, after which I had time for a SSS (Sht Shower Shave) before having to lead a meeting at 9am local time. A mother was walking her child up and down the plane trying to get it to sleep. In her mind this was reasonable and she couldn't grasp why the stewards kept asking her not too. The fact she was waking back and forth around 100+ people, waking them all up in turn never dawned on her.

My point is, if someone thinks its harsh, or discriminatory to not want to be sat near, preferably not on the same plane as a crying age child, I'd suggest thinking it through a bit before voting.

    Re: Child Free Flights?

I've been on mid-range, 5-6 hour, flights and generally the problem has been adults failing to control the children sufficiently.

Sometimes there are babies that cry, but its hard to avoid that at the best of times.

So whilst the idea might be anti-child, hopefully the adults are in the same section, away from everyone else.

    Re: Child Free Flights?

If you are near a baby on something like a jumbo then you need to choose your seat more wisely. The baby businets are in certain places so avoid them. Walking around with a crying baby is just retarded.

I found with my baby flying out in the early evening worked as she fell asleep and slept most of the way. Coming back which was an earlier flight was much more difficult. They tend to turn the lights out early while she wants play and of course isn't tired. Luckily she doesn't cry much by does like to laugh. Having a smartphone~Tab loaded with kids programmes worked well this time.

Exactly. I appreciate that to a parent their child is the most important thing in the world to them and other people have to respect that the child is not going to understand the impact its having, but at the same time there is a line where the actions of said parent just become downright disrespectful to everyone else.

I once booked a train back up north and deliberately booked a table seat in the quiet carriage so i could get some work done in relative peace. In comes the mother and 2 children who started running around the carriage playing and causing a racket. I politely stated to the woman that she was in the quiet carriage and perhaps one of the regular ones without noise restrictions would be more appropriate for the kids and she went mental at me... was i being unreasonable?

    Re: Child Free Flights?

Yeah I've also had the problem on trains; sitting in front of two young boys who were kicking the crap out of our seats for the best part of four hours tried my patience to say the least. The lack of willingness for the parents to do anything about it really annoyed me, despite asking several times. We'd also specifically booked table seats and initially that's where they were sitting until I asked their parents to move them.

Basically, I don't think asking for kid-free zones is unreasonable at all. Other people on the train/plane/whatever shouldn't be stressed to hell by kids just because the parents couldn't give a crap.

Nope, I would have told her to wind her neck in and get her brats under control. And it's obvious where her kids learnt to have a flippant disregard for other people when she flies off the handle when someone politely asks her to keep the quiet carriage quiet.

Absolutely agree, no-one likes brats running wild with parents not keeping control, but a crying baby being consoled...

Trouble you get is people buy cheap air tickets and expect a first class charter flight.

As a parent, I would be highly embarrassed if my kids where to be running around on a bus/train/plane. The issue is mainly with poor parenting, they need to control them.

Making child free flights isn't a problem for me, I can fully understand.

    Re: Child Free Flights?

i have decided to stay in the country for the past 3 years since having my daughter as I think it's basically cruel to put a very young child on a plane (cruel to the child and the other 300 people on the plane) and expect it to sit still for several hours. As Lucy will be 3 in a couple of weeks I would hope she will be able to do 3 hours on a plane with a tablet loaded with cartoons and games to keep her busy next summer.
