Question Ok... Which do you prefer?

    Intel or AMD?

    Budget is of no concern!

Also, what is a fair benchmark to compare the two brands?

I prefer (yes, you guessed it): AMD!

In my opinion, just provides better value for money. P4s are hardly slow, but are just too expensive for me!

In that case... AMD again! This time because of the Socket 939 Athlon 64s, simply blistering performance.

AMD, having two system currently the AMD one still performs much better than the Intel, Hyperthreading is a crock of .... and doesn't give me any performance increase.

You want top of the range performance then AMD have got 3500+ and 3800+ both of which from what i've seen are higher than any intel out there atm...

The hypertransport bus of the 939's looks superb...

and of course most important Myth - because you are a intel freak

AMD, what TiG said, and the simple fact that whichever one you buy it's still going to be better value than the equivalent intel

Umm, no it doesn't, unless you count a very small handful of benchmarks and use the Exceedingly Expensive version..

Even then the gap in performance isn't worth the gap in the prices.

Or you could try to goad some more people into a pointless flame war..

As soon as someone can recomend me some reliable benchmarks I will Bench my baby! Then I will post the results... And I will ask some amd'ers to do the same!

Once this is done I will use the results to decide on my next gaming rig! This rig I will use as a media server for my house!

If it gets the job done then Im no bothered. Dont give 2 hoots about benchmarks coz all that matters is 'noticeable' difference, not the extra .78 frame rate, or 3 seconds for an hour process. If budget aint a concern, then Id probably go with intels Quad Xeons as Devilbod's said (even tho I have no need for that sort of power). I'd choose VIA for the dining room PC coz that'll be quiet
