c'mon big al...nicho's just having a bad day is all, could be any number of things. have you never met any of the following...they're fairly common in most organisations

1 - person who you just couldn't get on with & everything they do annoys you
2 - person who you obvioulsy annoy & they're always on your case trying to
3- person who has been promoted beyond their wildest ability & just about keeps their head above water in their job
4 - complete fking idiot who needs killing

Fair enough. But at the end of the day, it's like nurses having a go and moaning about people being ill. Does that make sense? It doesn't to me...

We have two at work that qualify for all four! And they've just been promoted from a shunter (lowest grade) to our standards managers. They are going to be ever so slightly power p*ss*d. Don't think I will be with company for much longer somehow. The setup is just crass stupidity. They cant even drive FFS.

Al, people sometimes like their job most of the time but get frustrated by aspects of it sometimes and need to blow off steam. Do you not get that? I LIKE most of my users, I WANT to help them and make their lives and jobs easier (whether they appreciate that or not), but sometimes an aspect or factor of the job may make it extremely frustrating or annoying. So, in the same way that I'd vent to friends or something like that, I vented here. People do that. You appear to be taking this as some sort of personal affront; I don't know why.

Sorry, no I'm not taking it personally, nor am I directing it at you personally. It's more of a case that I'd love to get a job in IT and know I could do better than some of the monkeys that our company employ, but I'd miss the money I make in accounts and also don't have any qualifications in IT.

Therefore, when I see people moan about working in a helpdesk position, I wonder why they are there! Most helpdesk users just wanna sit on their arse all day surfing the net thinking it's a job (and I'm not claiming that you do!) and CBA to help out people, which at the end of the day is why they are there. It seems to be a hassle, rather than a part of their job.

The thing is Big Al, most people enjoy helping people out- as long as they have the capability and a willingness to learn. When you run up against someone who has neither then you have problems. I frequently used to get people in the camera shop who either thought they knew my job better than me, or wouldn't even attempt to learn how to push two buttons in sequence, and they do provoke feelings of irrational violence.
