If the jury find that use of an IP address is insufficient proof that the owner/registered user was using it for illegal or unauthorised downloading, it has far reaching consequences for consumers, content providers and copyright holders.
For consumers, it would shift the burden of proof back onto copyright protection organisations who threaten court cases simply because an IP address has been used fpr copyright theft
For copyright holders, who would need corroborative evidence
For content providers - who might find themselves under more scrutiny as targeting consumers may become harder - so attention will turn to the supply, rather than attempting to curb demand.
