The BBC investigating the BBC!![]()
Heard about 2 minutes of program just now- lot worse than I thought, bbc guys will be running for cover.
Which reminds me

Wow, what a load of ignorant tosh. But best of all, coming from an outlet which posted daily sexual comments about the then child Charlotte Church....

I don't have much truck with the Daily Mail, but the organisation (PIE) did exist, and while I can't remember if it was supported by the NCCL, and I doubt the Mail would risk a libel case by publishing a story that couldn't be substantiated, and that includes the Harriet Harman link.
However, to go back to the main topic, the Panorama Programme does raise as many questions as it answers, such as what was the role of the now Director General?

He have been saying ' oh , a can of worms- close the tin and don't tell me too much'.
That bit is fine, it's the rest of the commentary that gets back to the usual DM standards:
"Accordingly, sex education in schools promotes all kinds of sexual activity, even to primary school children"
etc.
I didn't see panorama, but heard some discussions on Today this morning exploring whether it was actual willing cover up because of worry of consequences, or just lack of acceptance that it was really a problem - cultures have different views on things at different times.
I wonder if the TV license will go up when the BBC gets sued?
I think this will end up being huge, and wont end at the BBC. Jimmy Saville and his cohorts are of the era when a typical societal and police response to rape was pull yourself together/you were asking for it. That level of misogyny, mixed with a dash of power and unfettered access to vulnerable young women is a recipe for only one thing. I think there are quite a few more 'national treasures'(sic) tugging nervously at their collars right now hopefully they wont be the last people to have a feel of them. Hopefully the public scrutiny will ensure they get a sentence commensurate with their crimes. Rather than less than 6months per, which seems to be the going rate.
Slightly off topic; but If you missed Claire Balding ranting about this and the mail on HIGNFY, you're missing out.
been reading some NHS trusts are preparing to cancel cancer operations to pay for the possible legal action......and cancer groups are wanting to counter sue so services are not affected!
I can't comment on rivalry between Panorama and Newsnight, but I suspect there isn't a lot of love lost between the journalism and management side of the BBC - especially after nearly everyone on the news teams were removed to Salford - but I would hope that journalistic integrity wouldn't descend to a bit of 'revenge'.

That, too.
Editorial independence tends to be quite carefully cultivated. One BBC editor (ex-editor of Today, IIRC) commented recently on TV that most editor's reactions to management pressure to kill a story would be to run it the next day, or if possible, earlier. In other words, a carefully calculated flipping of the proverbial bird, at them. The emphatic gesturing of the digitus impudicus.![]()
