    CV's

Finally decided to get my ass in gear and find a job. Searched online but everywhere is asking for a CV. I remember doing some stuff on it from school last year but have no idea how to write one or what to include in one. Any help will be very much appreciated. Would not having a job before put a big downer on the cv as i would have had no experience in the workplace?

Ahh, you tailor the cv for a specific application, if you've not got much experience, then highlight your knowledge or skills set..

How old are you by the way?

Take a trip down your local library. They've probably got a good range of books about how to write an effective CV.

If you're still at school then maybe they have a careers advisor that you could speak to and get to review what you come up with?

Ahh, don't worry about the lack of experience with you only being 17, you won't be expected to have that much or indeed any commercial experience at that age

If you're just looking for a job whilst at school, I'm pretty sure that you won't get an IT based one. I looked for one like that 2 years ago, and they'll all be full-time ones, or ones at bad hours. I think this is because no matter how much experience at IT you think you have, you still may need quite a bit of training.

In the end I got a job at sainsbury's. I was a shelf stacker for a year, which I hated. I asked for a transfer to checkouts which is much better now, but I'd still prefer and IT based job. If I were you (or unless anyone else knows something I don't) get a job in a shop somewhere - BUT DON'T DO SHELF STACKING!!!!

I tried PC world when I was looking, but back then (I don't know about now) they only took people over 18. If I were you, keep trying, and if you don't find what you want by the end of the summer holidays, just got for a retail job. I hated the idea of doing that, but I wanted to be earning money - in the end it's up to you.

Get a job in retail, however I recommend small not-so-busy shops, as usually it means you do less work
Retail work is frustrating, you job basicly involves helping the stupid idiots of the country buy the products they really dont need - ofcourse you know this but your happy to steal there money anyway.
In any retail job, try to get a position in the warehouse or something off of the shop floor. Working on the shop floor is hell.
Most retail jobs, of the non-management kind (the type your looking for) pay at almost min wage, I started at £4.50 I think it was, that then got changed to £5.13 when I was 18... untill your 18, in any retail job, expect a VERY crap wage, and it doesnt really gget better past 18.
Managers in retail jobs also usually treat the staff like children, the shop I worked there wasnt much freedom - which you expect in a job, but for some reson you dont get it in retail jobs.

Also as your only 17, and probably, like me and most other people, have nothing interesting to put in a CV, you should get your parents to write one for you.
My dad done mine originally, but I have changed it a LOT since.

For a retail non-management job you really dont need a cv... just go in and fill out there form, and you have a job.

Another job is data entry.. I recommend dont do this type of job.. but it pays better. However it is soul destroying, in that you sit in the same place for hours, typing and usually cant stop and talk much.. becuase your being supervised.. I really hated it and got myself transfered to post room job, in which I opened and sorted out mail.
I got my data entry / post room job from a job agency, just as a temp job. usually they have some chioce of hours.

My best advice for CV's is list the best things first, and then move the not so good stuff [i.e your lack of work exprience] to the back end of things.

Even include your school work experience week, anything, just fill the section in.
