Redundancy! Advise & proof reading CV

Well, not quite the start to the week I was hoping for. After a year I have been made redundant... 2 weeks notice, followed by 2 months paid unworked 'notice period'. I don't think it's too bad an offer seeing as I have only been with them a year!

Needless to say I have a can of Stella and my CV open and am updating it with my latest year of experience.

Is there anyone available who can have a read of it and let me know what they think? I have the main structure there but I am not sure the order to put things in. I.E; Does job experience go above my University qualifications? How far back should I list jobs keeping in mind I have had only 2 x 1 year jobs after University, then several pub/part time experience prior to university!

Due to it being everything about me I would appreciate it if only members of a very solid standing (ie few years+ few 1000 posts+) are there to read it, whilst everyone else is more then welcome to suggest orders or advice on it!

    Many thanks guys

What is the industry your currently in.

What is the industry your looking at being in.

What is the role you are currently doing (as you are still employed in your at risk formal peroid right?)

What is the kind of role you want to do.

Also, stella, your un-employed, you can't afford to drink stella on a monday, its not your grandmothers birthday.

would have thought breif mention of qualitifications, along with your name, etc at the top.

    Brief pargraph about you

List of key skills (bullet points, easy to skim and read, pick up buzzwords a HR drone might be searching for)

    Breakdown of employment history

    Education history

'Other' things, like do you play the keyboard, or at uni you ran the Harry Potter fan club etc.

Re: Redundancy! Advise & proof reading CV

I moved jobs from military to automotive engineering just a couple of months ago, so might be able to give some pointers, but I do think that other than some obvious rules, some of the minor things are a matter of personal opinion.

The layout that Animus has suggested seems to be the way to go. You would ideally tailor your CV to the job you are going for (bit difficult if it's through an agency though). You're at that stage where you can either put your education before your employment or vice versa, but it depends on the type of job you are going for and what you believe would be more relevant to the job. I wouldn't bother putting part-time jobs in unless it's relevant or demonstrates a useful skill. Try and match what the job is looking for and put it into your "key skills" part, maybe giving brief examples where appropriate. As Animus mentioned, it will probably be skimmed by HR for those words/phrases who might not be as technically minded. I managed to write most of my first CV, which I then used as a basis for my others, from just copying what the job wanted (working in small teams; reporting to management chains and mundane stuff you probably do anyway but don't realise how useful it can be on your CV).

Re: Redundancy! Advise & proof reading CV

My Covering letter... I appreciate your time guys. Due to serious family illness & immanent passing of a family member I am unable to turn to them for support in this manner. As a result all help is greatly appreciated!

I would like to apply for the job of Manufacturing Engineering Final Assembly Engineer as advertised on your website.

For the last year I have worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for BLANK UK on the BLANK Vehicle assembly line. I started on the project prior to the assembly of the first Production Prototype vehicle, where I helped liaise with the Production Manager setting up the shop floor, arranging build stations, tool stations and parts distribution. Following on from this I worked with our customer, BLANK (on behalf of the MOD) on the first 6 Production Prototype vehicles checking the vehicles were in a state to be put into production, and were able to be assembled. Alongside this I aided in fault finding, problem solving and sourcing work arounds when snags were uncovered. Due to a series of Defence Shows and training scenarios the prototype vehicles were attending I regularly worked late into the evenings to ensure deadlines were met and the vehicles were ready on time, without cutting corners or compromising on quality.

Following on from the completion of the 6 Production Prototypes I worked as part of a team of three Manufacturing Engineers creating 150 Standard Operating Procedures (instructions) for the assembly of the final vehicle. I also spent extensive amounts of time on process improvements, tooling to boost efficiency and general waste reduction. I was actively involved with problem solving and fault diagnostics working closely with the customer, Design Engineers and Quality Engineers.

I feel I would be a good match for BLANK'S Manufacturing Engineering Final Assembly role due to my 2 years of Manufacturing Experience on a Military vehicle. I have extensive experience on high value, high quality vehicles such that BLANK produce and have the high expectations, attention to detail and constant desire to improve and refine that is required to maintain the premium brand imagine that BLANK has. I have experience both working as part of a team, and leading small teams of highly qualified personnel to success and have the ground work already in place to become an active, beneficial member of a team from the get go.

If you ever want to, feel free to fire across a copy and I can look through and pass on a few ideas. Not saying I'm any kind of expert, but if you ever want a second opinion
