COMET liquidation sale, & still too expensive.

Read about this on the aol page and jumped into the car and headed down there. Car park full, plenty of people walking in but then noticed the amount walking out empty handed. first thought was its all gone, walked to the door to find the store quite full of items and lots of people walking around, usually my store is like going to a grave yard. Glanced over to the till, No cue, no customer. Spoted my d3100 Nikon which I paid £289 for just 100 yards over the road, their price £349, with the sales staff telling me I can have 10% off that. Seagate hard drive 1tb was £85 down to £76.50. Is it just my store or are they all still too expensive considering that most items won't be warranted. Also does anyone know if my extended warranty means nothing now on my tv and freezer?

Depends who your extended warranty is with; it is usually with a third party company.

If you paid by credit card you "may" have some comeback via the CC company.

Apparently Comet's extended warranties were all through a 3rd part company (the biggest one in the UK) and are all still fine, at least that's what Paul Lewis said on BBC News last week.

When it was first announced I thought I'd have a look at their website. Given the speed of it, everyone else must have had the same thought!

Gave in, and glad I didn't waste much time on it!

But the sad thing is there are fewer and fewer places to go to look at what you eventually end up buying online ...shame.

I say that partly in jest, but hopefully local smaller retail shops can stage a bit of a comeback.

Do you think there might be a correlation there? It costs to have a high Street presence, and that is reflected in the higher price. Why should they act as a showroom for their cheaper competitors?

The clever ones offer better customer service, or added value in other ways, but a box shifting warehouse will have lower overheads than a High Street retailer.
