A sad day, but what an amazing life he lived. About time the BBC got all the available Sky at night digitised and available as a permanent memorial to Sir Patrick.
Well ,at least they'll be another star up in the cosmos tonight.

Very sad - his enthusiasm for his subject, and his ability to make it so accessible, will be missed. He really did bring astronomy alive.

He was opinionated no doubt, but his enthusiasm for space was still evident even in his old age,and this shone through he how could address this to the general public. We need more people like him who made astronomy accessible.
Weebl did a remix of the old anim to honour him:

Sad day indeed.
Local legend round my way - and will be missed in the area.
His politics may have been questionable - but his passion for astronomy and science was always his most defining characteristic.

It is a shame. As well as the sky at night, not to forget he was the games masterI'm not a huge astronomy person but I have occasionally watched the sky at night and he often made me laugh.
