    Apple doing their thing... Again.

This time they are banning SkyDrive, Microsofts cloud syncy thingie. I've been using this for 4 years now, so I suppose I'm effected. Luckily not by much, because my iPad is used to gather dust only at the moment.

What is interesting is even after microsoft offered to stop any in-app purchasing, they are now forbidden. Also any 3rd parties who use SkyDrive, are now SOL.

Now Microsoft was famously tried for bundling a browser with an operating system, nothing more. What about banning your competitors entirely from your devices?

I think that they are asking for a anti trust suit from the justice department.

I think its the iOS Dev ToS, you are required to funnel all purchases via Apple so they get their cut of everything.

I guess because you can buy more storage in other ways, and the app just connects to it, they choose to refuse it entirely.

This is just history thou. Apple marketed a technology in the 80s people thought no one would want, and they did it well.

They became very controlling and ultimately just damned stupid. Classic example one button mouse.

Meanwhile IBM made a platform which was easy for people to jump on, build their own cheaper for the low end market, hack to hell and back for the enthusiast market.

Apple faded away in to obscurity, with only the most retarded idiot trying to say the hockey puck mouse was a 'good thing'.

They then came back with the Fondle Jab Phone, which was a complete turd in incarnation one, which cost a fortune, but showed people would spend that much dosh on a phone. I called them mad at the time. Half the trading desk I was working for at the time thought it was stupid, no one would be able to afford the thousand plus pound device (when taking in to account minimum contract spends). It also wasn't a very good phone, whilst lacking many things a feature phone at the time had, such as GPS or any good games.

But thanks to the Eric Cartman school of marketing for app developers they created a new micropayment orientated gold rush. Thousands of apps you or I have never heard of were created. And the result is what we have now. A really solid ecosystem of apps.

It was nothing to do with Jobs visionary designs, quite the opposite, he vocally opposed the app store idea.

Re: Apple doing their thing... Again.

I never understand why MS is always picked on by all governments in terms of being a monopoly yet all they did was have IE a browser they made come as default, you are free to change it immediately and its piss easy and they get fined and now the EU are after them again for apparently not doing good enough in giving users a big choice, for me I had a massive selection of browsers even a couple I didnt know about free advertising for them... Yet all the mobile operating systems I have seen have a stock browser so why arent they chasing them? Android works in the similar sense as windows with IE so they either both get sued or neither, Apple is a bit different mind!.

Apple is bollocks they cut anything out they dont like just look at Google and other services, I dont understand how Apple get away with it especially as they do it after a fair amount of time way more than it would take to think oh they shouldnt be doing that, instead they leave it long enough to think "Oh shiz they are going to steal our market share with this amazing app must kill it quickly!". Considering Apple keeps removing things that customers would have had access to originally it means they are reducing the functionality of the device which you would have thought the EU would be raping them hard for that!.
