A better question would be how many times does the predicted end not have to come before everybody grows the hell up? That's not even a full list of the apocalypses I've survived. That's the 'just lately'. It's ridiculous egoism and self obsession that convinces people it will end in their lifetime.
Because it makes money...........and when this cash cow has gone there will be another one along shortly.........my bet's going to be on an Alien invasion!!
I love the wikipedia list of them all, especially how the LHC activation made it onto there XD

I don't get it either, there's nothing to gain if you predict it correctly, but you'll get laughed at if you incorrectly predict it. Is it just delusion or attention seeking?
Some people are genuinely deficient of logical and critical thinking.
Hell look at scientologies rise in the UK.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
Hows do you know that , are you channeling the old ones through those antlers of yours again ?
Well, i hate to break it you but it looks like we are under threat from a giant peanut again.

Apparently you don't know the true meaning behind it.
Its nothing to do with the end of the world in the traditional sense, more the end of the world as we know it (changing).
Its all about the earths position on the Equinox and what that means for everyone spirituality(nothing to do with religion). Mind, Body, Spirit. Science has shown us the meaning of two of these, and has shunned the other and don't talk about it because they can't understand it, or the more conspiracy side of the coin, know about it, but they don't want the world to know because it would screw there plans up (that's a whole different subject).
In the most basic sense, this is supposed to be a time when humanity learns what spirit has to teach and transcends to the next plain of existence (which can be classified as a different dimension where spirit is key). This has its links back to somewhere you might of heard of, Atlantis and the culture that was there, that is when we supposedly fell down a spirituality hole if you will and lost all knowledge of it, this was when we where on the opposite end of the equinox, classed as a awake state of spirituality. We went from awake to asleep in the spiritual sense, we have been "waking up" for a long time, like pretend that you just woke up and you don't have a clue what is happening you are still half asleep. On the 21st we cross the threshold of waking up and awake, gaining back the knowledge that we lost long ago and we can "transcend" to something called Christ Conciseness which is the next stage is human spirituality which is what Jesus and a certain Egyptian pharaoh (forgot his name...) are thought to have been and used their knowledge to "help" mankind to advance.
Not saying any of this is true just this is the original meaning behind the Mayan's calender er + other sources from Mayan culture, (the Mayan's aren't dead btw, they have only ascended to the next stage), before the media distorted it into a "end of the world" situation to make money.
Anyway........................................
Yeh, its not the end of the world.
Well said. I was told, by a proper Mayan, in Mexico, that it's not the end of the world, but the end of an Epoch, No 3 of 5, each of which lasts thousands of years. I have been repeating this to everyone who wrongly goes on about the end of the world, and I'm nearly getting sick of the sound of my own voice. Nearly.
I'm not believing any of it either, it's just a load of attention-seeking lies in my opinion...
Takes your mind off the state of the economy, career woes, the job market and the size of you credit card bill....?What is this obsession with the end of the world....
The trouble with a lot of old writings is its usually metaphorical , so whats interpreted literally as an end could mean many other things.
The most likely to happen soon scenarios I see is some form global war / meltdown or the magnetic poles switching and of course an alien invasion
- less likely any time soon - great flood, some foreign object hitting us , or Jesus himself reappearing ( unless hes an alien of course )
Some of the more common ones I've seen include 'Planet X'. Err, if a planet was going to collide in a few days it would be as/more visible than the moon by now. Yet people ignore that fact.
Poles flipping, the poles aren't stationary anyway, and have flipped many times in the past. Aside from having to cross out N and S on compasses and change them over, and possibly a peak in EM interference, there's little/no evidence to suggest it would be anything catastrophic to life.
Some sort of alignment? Similar stuff happens pretty much every year, and why would it matter anyway?
Some people have been genuinely frightened by this, logical thinking doesn't necessarily help. I'm terrified of needles - they don't really hurt and are generally beneficial in some way, but I can't just drop the fear because it's not logical. With the amount of selfish people spreading the rumour and playing down any logic as a cover-up of some sort, it's understandable IMHO that some people have grown concerned. Of course, the Internet has also helped to propagate this more than in the past.
