BBC Sports Personality of the Year tonight... don't miss it

Because frankly, tonight's is gonna be awesome.

12 contenders this year I think, not the normal 10.. .because WE ROCKED at the Olympics

didn't we? I mean... we really rocked

and we've got a half decent Tour de France'r in there too.....

If you're not in.. set your box to record.

Each to his own, I guess.

While I'm glad we (by which I mean British sports people) did well at the Olympics, and I have no problem with them getting awards, you couldn't pay me enough to get me to watch it. I'd rather watch paint dry. I had no interest in watching them win events at the Olympics, and didn't, except when I happened to come into the room when it was on. So I think you can guess how likely I am to watch a BBC awards ceremony. I wish them all well, but I have no interest whatsoever in who wins this. Not one iota.

Sorry. Not for me. I'd rather watch Eastenders .... and I detest soaps.

I wanted Mo to win purely because I`m a runner as well(albeit a little bit slower than mo His exploits in the Olympics gave me a lot of positivity for my own challenges this year.

Saying that Wiggo was a deserved winner for his tour de france and Olympics gold.

I felt a bit sorry for Murray as well. if it was a none olympic year I reckon he would have been spoty for the us open win.

    And my jess second

I don't think the BBC should continue with this. These sports people have already garnered their accolades for their sporting achievements, I struggle to understand the purpose of the great unwashed having their arbitrary-yet-partisan say, not to mention the tedious glitz and celebrity that accompany it - hand this format to the commercial channels.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Sports personality of the year - not necessarily what they did - but then if you put it to a pay-to-vote scheme who knows what the outcome will be. Wiggins did very well, and I don't for a minute begrudge him the accolade, but is he more of a personality than the other 12 on the short list?

I was less than inclined to watch it this year.. so I didn't. I think it has a part to play in quiet years where we need to boost the profile of key achievers in years where commercial opportunities are low. But this year.. that wasn't the case - the top vote winners were already famous and commercially sorted, and they could hardly have been excluded just to allow others their chance in the limelight.

If you asked anyone outside the UK who any of those folk were Id wager that no one would know - apart from Murray and possibly Wiggins .

I know Murray isnt the most endearing person , but he had the best tennis year and IMO was at least equal with Wiggins .

Tennis is global sport - cycling aint on the same level

Dont believe me look at how much Roger Federer makes , then compare that to any cyclist.

Also Murray has had far more exposure outside his sport globally doing ads etc what have rest done ?

No one ever talked about any brit not winning the Tour De France like a grand slam in tennis, so i do find it ironic most folk in the UK voted for Wiggins instead , when i doubt even half of them even cycle or watch it .

Without voting guidelines for me this just the laymans vote and nothing else - with perhaps a bit of Eurovision thrown in

Props to Wiggins though he did well and won something significant for England

Murray will prob win it another year when Englands fortunes turn to misery once again..

    BAWAHAHAHAH

    Celebrity != personality

But then it depends on your definition of "sports personality"

Id also argue that success in most sports is dependent on a lack of it as personality usually requires emotion , and emotions are usually not good things - at least in tennis ... unless your John McEnroe.
