my cat keeps licking himself bald?
Peeps
One of our cats Gibson has been licking himself bald again and its getting pretty bad.
This happened about a year ago when our son was born and we put it down to that. Funny that he was ok when our daughter was born 18 month earlier. I took him to the vet and she gave him a jag that seemed to help him. he has no skin issues or fleas.
it came back again and another trip to the vet and was given another jag. Issue solved.
now its back and getting concerned that its something else.
Gibson is pretty much a house cat, only goes out for a pee. his brother Brockie is always out for days on end and is perfectly fine.
kinda think the stress of being stuck with 2 mad kids gets to him but he is fine round them.

One of our cats is currently doing the same thing.
He is black but currently has a really light patch down his back where he has licked his fur really thin, and we keep finding tufts of hair all over the place.
No idea what it is but if you figure it out let us know :)
Re: my cat keeps licking himself bald?
What did the vet diagnose in the first place, to prescribe what they did; seeing as it worked that seems like confirmation it was what they thought? What was the treatment (steroids, antibiotic etc). Really depends if it's medical or behavioural. Is it mainly one place or general? Maybe it's a vicious cycle thing?

If you get a Jag each time you visit the vet I'd head back there again, ask for an XKR-S this time ;)

Well it's a another trip to the veterinarian then. Even if it's stress it needs to be diagnosed properly so you can get the right treatment for your moggy, which can be a long term course of injections.
Re: my cat keeps licking himself bald?
Our cat used to do the same thing. The vet said it was due to a flea-bite allergy; we hadn't seen any evidence of fleas, but apparently just a single flea-bite can set off the reaction. We treated the cat with the stuff you put on the back of their neck (can't remember the brand name), and it did clear up eventually.

Yea, your cats stressed, had a cat which did this when she got older when the other cat (younger) wanted to play. Its over grooming and we found that the only solution was 2 let here upstairs away from the other cat.
