    Bluejacking

Anyone had any luck with it? Sounds fun, if odd. According to www.bluejackq.com...

First up, you need to know what Bluetooth is. There are lots of types of modern devices that incorporate the Bluetooth wireless communication system as one of their many features. PDAs, mobile phones and laptops are a few of these modern devices. Bluetooth means that Bluetooth enabled devices can send things like phonebook/address book contacts, pictures & notes to other Bluetooth enabled devices wirelessly over a range of about 10 metres.

So, we've got past the boring part. Now, using a phone with Bluetooth, you can create a phonebook contact and write a message, eg. 'Hello, you've been bluejacked', in the 'Name' field. Then you can search for other phones with Bluetooth and send that phonebook contact to them. On their phone, a message will popup saying "'Hello, you've been bluejacked' has just been received by Bluetooth" or something along those lines. For most 'victims' they will have no idea as to how the message appeared on their phone. So, personalised messages like 'I like your pink top' and the startled expressions that result is where the fun really starts.

Doesn't work for all phones tho, as most modern phones will ask you if you want to recieve the contact first.

Driving in a car, with a wifi laptop and just finding open wireless networks which you can use to access the internet.

take 1 friend who can drive, 1 laptop with a wifi card. Then you go find an unprotected wireless network

last year a couple of teenagers in America were arrested for getting into a large DIY store's network that way. Teefed a load of credit card details IIRC

Gaining access to someone's network for your own benefit or to steal their bandwidth (i.e wardriving) is illegal But simply putting a text on their file server / desktop / whatever saying "Your network is insecure. I'd advise you to amend your security" or something, is the ethical thing to do

When you send an address book contact (either real or a 'hello' one) you DONT have to accept... it automatically goes through. However, pics / movies etc the recipient has to accept.

I was bluejacked in a pub, I accepted a pic and it was a NFFC badge... he sent another... this time a .gif of p0rn... :-/
