    Google at war with MS?

    http://wmpoweruser.com/now-google-is...ps-google-com/

So google have blocked windows phone devices from their maps.

This is odd behaviour to say the least, because quite frankly I like google maps, and I like using them, effectively making add revenue money. However the new windows phone 8 nokia maps are simply amazing. I was rather away from the main roads today, riding my bike around Mae Rim and the completely offline free maps not only worked very well, but also had searchable POIs offline. It's very impressive. However it didn't have my destination online, which google maps does. Currently I can use an online 3rd party solution to 'snapshot' tiles, but I wonder how long before google block that?

The infoworld article is incredibly missleading, because it ignores the fact that IE on Windows Phone 8, and Windows 8 is the exact same rendering / js engine.

So if it works on my windows 8 laptop, which it is now, then it should work fine on the phone. It's been blocked intentionally by Google.

Considering that MS also started going after Android handset companies too,I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye.

    HTC.

This is all part of the Apple vs Google vs Microsoft war over the mobile markets. I really doubt MS is entirely innocent in this case and neither is Google.

But HTC make windows phones aswell :/ Seems a daft thing to do.

Kinda feel sorry for HTC in some ways, they dont seem to stand much of a chance anymore

HTC acquiesced and pays them something like $5 per Android handset they sell.

Neither Apple or Microsoft have a longterm interest in Google doing well, so will do whatever is necessary to undermine them, via direct or indirect means. If they don't their current business models which are very profitable for them would be undermined. However, what has changed is that unlike in the past Google used to more passive, but it appears in the last year or two they have been giving as good as they get.
