Property manager Darien Long became an overnight Internet celebrity after an eight-month-old video of him dealing with two violent women collected more than 1 million views in less than three days.

After about three minutes worth of yelling at the women to stand down, one decides to attack Long, who was wearing a video camera on his bulletproof vest and had a pistol in his possession. Long was hit on the head repeatedly and was ultimately forced to taser the woman.

I've yet to be persuaded that firearms in the UK is a great idea, but I'd be in favour of legalising tasers and pepper spray.

If it's the same thing I just Googled, then it took place in NYC. As I see it, the women had it coming the moment they jumped over the counter, and the employee was justified in making sure that the women could no longer pull out a weapon on him. Though incidentally, this employee is said to have served 10 years on manslaughter charge for shooting, and killing a classmate in 2000 (no further details provided on the article I saw).

Yes, if those two women had been armed, they could have just shot him without getting too close to him.

Right but part of the reason the guy is armed is because the police are so ineffective.

Agreed. If he'd have killed them both he's have been doing the world a favour. Anyone that jumps over the counter to argue with someone who wants to check the $50 bill isn't fake by jumping over the counter to assault them will more than likely never be of any use to society.

Agreed. If he'd have killed them both he's have been doing the world a favour. Anyone that jumps over the counter to argue with someone who wants to check the $50 bill isn't fake by jumping over the counter to assault them will more than likely never be of any use to society.

Well, a unfortunately the very areas most violent due to poverty have a lot of them, and as poverty is getting worse , our violence is going to get worse ( it is already too much for understaffed police ) so what are the alternatives ?

These women are no different than the Neds / Chavs over here ( no doubt on the increase ) you cant reason with them because their " intent " is to see much they can get away with or worse , it like dealing with psycho , because there is no way to predict what they do until its too late.

These people have no hope other than causing misery because its all they know , in short they are a cancer .

And cancers need to be stopped.

In your home Yes for definite .

That is your sanctuary , if you cant be safe there - then where ?

If they had troublemakers tagged with chips so they could be tracked and they still came into your home and got shot - too bad

A quick comparison of personal data would put the odds in the victims favour for once instead of leaving them punished ( esp if weapons are fitted with microphones , cameras too, to record any threats )

As for outside I think we should at least be allowed tasers ( esp disabled or old folk ) with guns perhaps in certain zones for those whove been trained , have a license - and most of all no criminal record.

The guns should be fitted with alarms too and tagged so you can alert police ( not in uniform ) to your location if you feel threatened.

This way police could be lurking anywhere without the criminals knowing and use the location of the gun , to track you or the criminal .

I think there should be shelters of some sort too in towns , as many places are shut not easily accessible if its late, some reinforced type of small shelter you can lock for saftey and use to wait in for police or until danger passes. ( not for folk with criminal records of course )
