LibDem ex-minister Chris Huhne has apparently, in a shock last moment reversal of his previous vow to fight charges of perverting the course of justice, amended his plea to guilty, and of course, thereby admitted
the allegations were true, which of course also means that his months of protestations of innocence were also lies.
The judge, onthis plea change at the first day of Huhne's trial, has hinted very firmly at a prison sentence, saying Huhne should be in "no doubt whatsoever" of the likely sentence.
That sentence, however, will have to wait for the conclusion of the trial of Vicky Pryce, Huhne's ex-wife and co-accused, because she is still pleading not guilty. Her stance, apparently, is not that the events alleged didn't happen, and indeed is confirming that they did, which presumably accounts for Huhne finally giving up the fight, but that she was under "marital coercion", and that therefore, while she did illegally take Huhne's speeding points, she is legally not guilty by virtue of that coercion. It'll be interesting to see if she can pull that off.
Oh, and Huhne has also said he'll be resigning as an MP very soon, though technically, he doesn't need to go until sentence us passed, and even then, not unless it's for 12 months or more.
But honestly, what a muppet. What a moron. What a class-leading, world grade, prize idiot.
For the sake of speeding points, he's effectively ended his Parliamentary career, 'cos it's very hard to see how he could ever expect to be reselected, never mind re-elected, after this, and he's almost certain to go to jail for a few months, maybe a year .... though it could be longer, and would have been had he maintained his not guilty stance and been convicted anyway.
And for what? Avoiding speeding points? Maybe a ban?
Moral of the tale? Don't lie to courts. Better yet, don't get caught speeding, and especially if your licence is at risk, never mind your career, don't faffin' speed in the first place . As I said .... what a moron.
