Read my post it's very clear what I mean.

I think one answer for some people being abused by this system might be taking a university course if that's possible for you. A Law degree would be my choice.

Now, to me that seems foolishness on both sides. If you expect, but dont require, then you shouldnt be surprised when people dont do things.

There's a housing shortage, particularly bad when it comes to affordable housing, which is obviously what people looking to move to find work need.

More than 75,000 households were found to be homeless by local authorities in 2011/12. [1]
At the end of June 2012, 51,640 homeless households were living in temporary accommodation in England. [2]
There are currently more than 400,000 households living in overcrowded conditions. [3]
    http://england.shelter.org.uk/campai...ing_more_homes

Remember those are households not individuals, and that's just England.

Which doesnt help. But then, I do suppose that bureaucracies work on the basis that everything works and behaves in accordance with their expectations and statistics would suggest.

Even the EU has the same "idea", with the free movement of labour. It does seem that workers flow into the UK at a much higher rate then UK nationals flow out to other parts to find work.

So, moving for work is only good if you have nothing keeping you in your current location and you can afford to move in the first place.

    Re: ATOS Medical Assessment .

I don't think the issue is bureaucratic(for once), but political, there's a cost involved politicians don't want to talk about. To achieve free movement of labour and it's inherent economic benefits requires far more than open borders. There must be built in over-capacity in all the institutions of modern life from water, energy and transport to housing and health to accommodate sudden changes in population. Increasing capacity takes time no matter how well it is done, publicly or privately, time to build, train, argue and everything else. Just dumping free movement on top of already strained services and expecting a net benefit is at best foolish. Running services over capacity increases cost per greatly and if you're entirely reactive you often end up with the situation where by the time you've built the capacity the people it's for have already moved on, resulting in a massive waste of time and resources, let alone the opportunity cost.

Or the accommodation has a lift / ground floor in addition to a ramp ( which is not easy or cheap to get as you may think)

Social housing provides aids and adaptations to the requirements of disabled / elderly at no cost to the tenant.

Agree. Plus unseen hidden costs and damage of overpopulation and environmental damage.

Not the flats Ive been in , I pay private now but when I didnt and was stuck upstairs for 2 yrs before I moved here they couldnt find me anywhere on ground floor or with a lift, so my folks helped out and bought this small flat with basically what was to be their will money to me - otherwise Id prob be still be stuck there .

Even here when I asked for a ramp I was stuck for a good 4-5 months until my father basically made a ramp because their was waiting list ( what they told me ) - eventually I managed find a proper ramp which I bought and had installed from a local disability shop.

Also there was no tapered pavement here so I had to buy another temporary ramp I carred onboard which was a nightmare to use because it added more weight - and awkward to place even with swiveling chair on my scooter.

Strangely enough council had no problem tapering the pavement within a month .

If you're back on social housing, specify the lack of, and use the term very precisely, necessary AIDS and ADAPTATIONS. They have to do it.

I thought so too, but as far as I know , the town I was at time ( which was basically a village ) had nothing - none of the buses had ramps or lowered , and even the local taxis werent equipped ( there may have been one .

I dont know how they would of adpated it either as there was definitely no room for a lift.

So even if I had got out I would of been severely restricted as the nearest shop was a good 5-6 miles away , ( some of it uphill ) and taxis ( unlike here ) were a rip off .

Of course had I deteriorated before I went there I obviously wouldn't of gone, so the transitional period from crutches too unable to walk assisted at all wasnt exactly ideal either.

The other catch was that they claimed my flat was still accommodation , even if it wasnt appropriate, so I was no longer seen as a priority - and put further down on the list...

And do you know how I was even able to get that flat before ?

Because the previous occupant basically died right there in the flat ( and from what I heard ) no else would take it , I soon discovered why too..

Not a housing association's job to deal with buses, taxis etc, just the property. A good bet is to seek a social housing provider who offer choice based lettings - not all do. Gives you more choice although realistically specialist requirements are going to limit your choice.

if I remember correctly they don't have to supply a lift - it can be a stairlift. Bit of a while since i worked in the sector so my memory is hazy ( and A and As weren't my speciaility ) . A good bet is to talk to citizen's advice bureau - they often have good knowledge in this field although to be blunt the quality of their staff varies wildly.

I had an assessment at the beginning of July and still not had a verdict. How long does it normally take them to inform people of their decision?
