    The Pope Resigns

Gone by the end of the month, apparently.

Sounds like Gross Misconduct to me, or maybe he was upset by what people were tweeting him...

Or maybe just a difficult decision correctly taken in view of his feeling that today's World needs both the mental and physical energy of its Christian spiritual leader - an energy that would test a man half his age.

A bit maybe. But primarily, it's that I have absolutely no respect for the hierarchy of the Catholic church, That's not for the members, but for the hierarchy. We can go into that (again) if you wish, but it'll include things like their stance on contraception and aids, especially in Africa, for their long held stance of hiding paedophile priests, even if it means other kids at risk, and so on.

I do respect the individual Catholic's faith, but have utter contempt for the church hierarchy. As far as I'm concerned, it makes not a jot of difference to me who the pope is, because they're essentially cut from the same cloth. Hence, DILLIGAS.

It might be for you, but for me, I said what I meant, and I meant what I said.

Of course, if I was expressing my opinion in private, and not on a forum with a strict attitude to the F letter, I might have .... erm .... made a minor adjustment.

    Re: The Pope Resigns

What I don't understand is why so many people in here are looking for alternative reasons for him stepping down, rather than the obvious one - the one he himself cites: that he's 85 and can't keep up with it any more? There's all manner of health problems that can suddenly spring up at that age, and if he's bright enough to realise that something's wrong and his current workload/lifestyle is just going to make it worse, what better time to step down?

I imagine as a former pope he'll get pastured out to some cushy parish somewhere sunny with very few parishioners and even less cares. Nice work if you can get it...

    Re: The Pope Resigns

i think its a combination of age , the continuous exposing of abuse by priests and nuns over decades (latest being the irish nun lead laundries) and the fact that fiscally ,the church is up *** street without a paddle.

and ofc nothing to do with the fact he fought against the allies in WW2 as a gunner on an AA gun...
