.... and another one bites the dust -Republic

Retail change Republic has gone into administration. They might be a lot smaller than HMV, etc, but still, another 120-ish stores.

Re: .... and another one bites the dust -Republic

Tough one this - there are so many clothing stores around, and they're all feeling the pinch. If you're one of the ones with less of a brand, history and reputation, you really need to do something innovative. Wouldn't shock me if one or two more bit the dust in coming months - I think Store 21 bought out Q&S recently, and despite revamping themselves Peacocks have a pretty dire reputation... that's to name just two.

And eventually the landlord bubble will burst too, leaving them to go bankrupt, and savvy people to snap them up at bargain prices and hopefully charge sensible rents to get businesses back.

Been there several times in my Uni years as it was near my campus to buy clothes on sale. Shame to see it go.

When there are empty spaces due to stores closing down, the supply increases and demand decreases. Rents will not go up when there are more spaces for stores to choose

Except when most of the empty shop space is owned by the same person, or company.

Not to mention that companies are usually reluctant to open stores in areas with a lot of closed stores because it will take more money and effort to get customers in.

Im not unsympathetic ,It doesnt change the fact these stores just illustrate what shallow , materialistic ( hence the greed ) society we've become.

So by supporting that , your also supporting those ideals which in turn make people dependent on living an illusion fostered by corporate schemes.

Actually, Republic was the sort of place you could pick up fashionable clothes quite cheap. If you were under 25...

Look at our society now.. technology has to look purdy to the point its almost all that matters, and even online its more important to see the cover than the content. facebook indeed..

Its all a bloody dalliance to distract us , like ol coyote who drowns himself by gazing at his reflection , we are all mirrors blowing smoke up our own arses .
