    Google Glass: Your thoughts?

So, Google has released more details on Google Glass, which is really starting to look like a really viable wearable solution, and a step up from the Pebble watch (that I'm expecting to receive in the next couple of weeks!).

Some great hands-on videos have been posted by various tech sites and I'm starting to think that wearing something like this that would have seemed proposterous and unlikely a few years ago, could well be reality by this time next year.

    Re: Google Glass: Your thoughts?

I'm... not massively convinced, do I *really* need an extra way to display information? Will it be worth the hassle of yet another battery limited device to juggle? Just how much information will be spewed back to Google about my usage?

Ultimately, this seems to fall into the "toy" category of technology, something I could have some fun with, but ultimately little use in my life. I can see some interesting commerical applications, for example, giving to warehouse pickers to find items faster and to confirm orders as accurately as a barcode scanner, or for meetings to replace the need to take notes.

    Re: Google Glass: Your thoughts?

As one CNet article points out ....
... Because Google knows everything about you, Glass will know where you have to be and when, without you having to say a word. ...
There are no circumstances under which Google will ever get me wearing these things. I don't care how good they are (though I remain to be convinced on that point), or how useful (and that one), it is simply not going to happen. Whether they become a common sight or not I don't know, though I have to say I doubt it, but they are not for me. I don't, and won't even have a Google account, much less wear these.

A figure of $1500 was mentioned. If Google were to pay me to wear them, that would not be enough. Not by a very large margin.

    No thanks

I don't really like the idea that some electronic device will be seeing everything that I see.

Sure your supposed to be in control but history should have taught us by now that as soon as this thing comes out someone will figure out a way to hack it.

Mark my words after release there will be a flurry of pictures and videos hitting the net that were grabbed without the user knowing from hacked glass devices.

Not to mention the stalking side of things since these things use gps to know where they are I'm sure they are sending that info back to the Google servers, it would not take much to lock on to a particular device and track that users location in real time.

I can see more bad in these things than I can good.

That aspect has already been cracked with the good 'ol mobile phone which can be tracked afaik even when switched off.

Nope, these aren't for me either. Don't want anyone peeping into the places I peep

    ....
Depends on the phone. I'd like to see anyone track the GPS in my phone .... 'cos there isn't a GPS chip.

But for the vast majority of new-ish phones, them being "smart", you're probably right, because phones aren't off when they're off, just like tablets aren't, and indeed, PC's, PVR's and all sorts of other devices aren't.
