    RAF's New Herc Replacement

No trees were harmed in the creation of this message. However, many electrons were displaced and terribly inconvenienced.

    Re: RAF's New Herc Replacement

Iconic though the Hercy bird is, I don't think anyone who has spent 14 hours in the back of one to Asi, and another 14 to the FI followed by another 14 hours back to ASI 'cos the weather was to bad to land, will regret its replacement!

I do love the look of the Herc, always wanted a 1/72nd scale model of the Spectre version

    Re: RAF's New Herc Replacement

Shame to see the Hercules go. It's been in active service for a very long time now, so i guess it's had it's time. The replacement doesn't look that different tbh, apart from the tail section.

It's a miracle that the MoD actually ordered something fit for purpose and that appears to being delivered on time too.

Its actually quiet a sensible upgrade from the Herc, one of the taglines for the A400 is that it can ‘transport what the C130 cannot to places that the C17 can’t'. The problem with the C130 is that modern military vehicles are wider, taller, and heavier than those that they replaced. Hence quiet a bit of new kit will not fit in a C130, or needs to be partly dismantled.

    Re: RAF's New Herc Replacement

heres the first from 2009 (delays in A400m)

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/...0090109?rpc=44

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv13UuLgH-s

short field is pegged at 980meters , comparable to the C-130J @ 955meters

    and heres the second:

    http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/...-to-jsf-02898/

AUS hornet fleet expanding to 48 ; likely much smaller F35 order

also looks like canada following suit.
