LOL - nothing quite so... "interesting"
I'm around at my g/f's brother's place where yesterday a nasty alarm installer person managed to drill through the mains water supply
    ...
it turns out that the stopcock on the street didn't work
    ...
thames water came out to replace it
    ...
to find a broken pipe in the garden where the plastic pipe connecting the street to the house had snapped.
    ...
they weren't insured to do work inside the property boundary - so had to get another crew out
    ...
in the meantime - their basement flat had about an inch and a half deep water throughout - soaking the brand new carpet
    ...
because the plastic pipe supplying the water is so brittle- nobody can get an appropriate fitting for it.
    ...
so I'm waiting for a THIRD plumber to come around and give it a blast.

in the meantime - they've got builders out back rebuilding a now-collapsed wall who've discovered all kinds of new problems... the reason for the damp in the front room and lounge - because the foundations end about 6 inches away from the walls... so there was bare earth under the fake floorboards.

It's an absolute unmitiaged disaster - so I'm sitting here in the "study" - which is where they keep the freezer - and freezing my knackers off ... looking at a pool of water which could be deep enough to swim in.

I would be seriously grumpy if this comedy of errors had happened to me - but as Mark (my g/f's brother) said this morning - well, what can you do. It's completely silly.
Mind you - the builders are being great about it - Thames Water blew my mind with their speed and efficiency... and the Alarm guys acutally had proper insurance! So it looks like everything will be sorted out nicely... eventually.

    Harrumph.
