That's what I was getting at - you don't have hordes of bots to contend with because only the very cleverest could defeat the registration process. I'm sure you get your fair share of humans with a taste for the spicy reconstituted stuff as well, but I bet you'd all resign your moderating posts if you had to spend all your time deleting accounts instead of enjoying the forums!

    Oh, absolutely.

One of the joys of modding here is that we get a direct say in how things happen, but there's not actually that much modding needs doing. Oh, once in a while things get a bit out of hand, and either one of the patient mods (like Zak) goes in a charms people down),or I pop in a drop a "behave or else" ultimatum, at which point things calm down, and the mods all go back to sipping tea in a corner and dozing contentedly .... except for one or two that snore, and you know who we ... I mean, you .... are.

But actually working at moderating? Mr Shirty, sir, (or Miss, Mrs, etc, delete as appropriate, since I don't actually know) please wash your mouth out with soap for even suggesting such a 'orrible notion.

500 post certainly seems excessive when you only need 15 to be able to PM still every forum has it's little quirks

Well I'm new here so I figure that antagonising the mods is something we can all enjoy once everyone knows what's what. Are you old Saracen? If you're missing your teeth I can always supply apple sauce instead...

Oh and it's Mr Shirty - not that I mind being androgynous on forums.

Oooooh, I can see I'm going to have trouble with you. You'll fit right in around here. You sure you're new?

To answer your question, positively ancient though young at heart, .... but I still have enough teeth to bite.

New at Hexus maybe, but very familiar with forum life. Too familiar actually. Now I've made myself feel a bit sad.

Sorry, I guess my question was a bit ambiguous. I was referring to the 70 PM limits.

I put a wink there because I am guessing that this was also decided after careful considerations hence unlikely to be changed. I am guessing that Hexus want to discourage message hoarding, and one can always download existing PM to make more space.

In my case, I do not use PM that much anyway, but it also means that I sometime "misplace" the downloaded messages (bad organisation TN, bad). So it's nice being able to keep PM of, say, sales transactions for future reference (what did I buy from whom, for how much, how long did it take to receive the item, etc.). So yes, sometime I do wish that I could either keep more messages, or have the means to merge existing ones (if that was possible, the 70 would last a pretty long time). Besides, it's not completely unusual to sometime see thread with "<Member name> - your PM box is full".

    Ah, OK.

Well, personally, I'm not married to the 70 figure (especially as I get more than that ) but, well, you make the case for me. Yeah, I'd say the rationale you put is basically it. Whether 50, 75, 100 etc doesn't really make a huge difference (that I'm aware of).

But there's one more aspect. Having a relatively small limit does mean people HAVE to sort periodically, and then logically, download important messages. Even with my much higher limit, I have to do that. And, the bigger the limit, the bigger the pain in the backside when you're forced to do it.

So really, we're doing you all a favour by making you do little and often.

    Aren't we kind?

Was the limit changed at some point? 500 does seem a lot when it's only 20 for the Scan free shipping...

Oh yeah here is the example I saw earlier: http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...treme9-ac.html

Yeah, it used to be lower. A 2005 account is likely before it went to 500.
