got to be honest - if it is that awkward it might well be this. Alternatively it might be that the individual just isn't a talker. I know folk who are quite comfortable not having much to say... as folk say above, if the relationship is going to work you need to be able to talk about anything, even the difficult stuff. Raise it, see what happens. No point stalling the inevitable if it is doomed, and if not, it will only strengthen your relationship.
Just revisiting this thread, gf is now my wife!
She is finishing up a course in a uni abroad ( don't ask why she wanted to study abroad !)
Nowdays when we talk, I start with how she is, what did she do today, what did she have for her meals, .... and chat goes on for 1 1/2 hours!

congratulations. Married? Do you mean engaged to be your wife or like married married already? If so that's like a 2 month turn-around!
Because you can connect very well with someone in a way you've never before, and still be completely and utterly unsuitable for each other... But anyway, good luck!

so... talking to women works?
its crazy, but it might just be worth a shot...
What an unexpected twist at the very end. Lovely.
I'm struggling after moving back home from university. My girlfriend of four years feels I don't speak enough on the phone but I actually hate phone conversations, I just can't do it.
Good to know that it can work out alright.
hold up lovely people.....
it's not what to talk about.. it's what to ask about.
Don't talk.. always ask.. then listen.
What did you do today? What does tomorrow hold? How are you feeling and what made you laugh? Tell me about that childhood funny story you never got round too? Have you spoken to your mum this week and is she ok? If I was to send you something nice in the post what would it be?
Ask.... and coax answers.. and listen.. absorb, show interest, and BE interested... and it will be easy.
