Re: Syria Chemical Attacks - real, fake, premeditated?

How long will it be before the likes of Syria, Iran, Iraq, North Korea and Afghanistan completely turn on us? We shouldn't get involved with their problems.

It's wrong to completely ignore what has happened, but our country is in a bad enough state as it is... Like CAT said, we have a huge debt and still in recession.

Send aid such as food supplies, water and whatever else they may need, but don't send thousands of troops over there.
Politics is were the working man pays his hard earned money to a group of clueless people to make suspect decisions.

BTW,a few months ago, supposedly,Sarin gas canisters were seized in Turkey:

    http://translate.google.co.uk/transl...ulundu-1135579

Guess who was caught with it?? Al Nusra.

I like how we ignore the UN saying the rebels had used or had access to chemical weapons.

Re: Syria Chemical Attacks - real, fake, premeditated?

So Assad's brother is supposed to of used chemical weapons and the rebels have allegedly had theirs seized in Turkey... And we're meant to go and intervene somehow?

If we send troops there, what is the likelihood of chemical weapons being used against them?

Re: Syria Chemical Attacks - real, fake, premeditated?

If someone can explain to me why Assad would sign his own death warrant I might be interested. Is he Brutal? Yes. Ruthless? Yes. Stupid? None of his actions so far seem to indicate a lack of intellect or larger picture thinking. His regime has nothing to gain and everything to lose by deploying these weapons.

    This whole thing stinks.

Re: Syria Chemical Attacks - real, fake, premeditated?

Well, these two articles pretty much sum it up:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...tary-unit.html

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ack-Obama.html

    Edit:
A YouGov survey for The Sun revealed that nearly three-quarters - 74 per cent - oppose deploying British troops to the conflict-torn country.

    Merely reiterating a fact!

According to the DM (which you generally have to take with a pinch of salt), we and the USA could start airstrikes as early as tomorrow.

Thats all very well, but no one is talking or suggestion that troops be deployed on the ground. Not the US, not the UK, and certainly not the Syrian opposition.

Most of the suggestions are about punishing the regime with cruise missiles.

Winning the war you are fighting is generally a benefit. As the Syrian army has ceased to exist maybe he is desperate. He was told about a red line, and he has been gassing people for months. So maybe he figured, he could just carry on.

He has already been allowed to kill 100,000 of his own people, so why would he not think it would be fine to carry on?

Also remember when the Syrian gov assasinated Rafi Harri the PM of lebanon? They got kicked out of lebanon as a result. Cui bono? Not them but still they did it, sometimes stupid murderous people do make mistakes.

I honestly have no idea what they want to accomplish here. I'm all for helping to prevent/stop large attacks against civilians, especially children, yet how on earth will any of this accomplish that?

This smacks off politicians being forced to follow up on promises about lines being crossed.

the rebels haven't had their chemical weapons seized in turkey.

"This incident was carried out by an organization which is in close contact to pro-regime groups in Syria and I say this very clearly, with the Syrian Mukhabarat [intelligence agency]," Interior Minister Muammer Guler said.

Re: Syria Chemical Attacks - real, fake, premeditated?

as always we do things to late !!!!
both sides are to blame and should be both punished !! Now we can't really side with Rebels because of the Al Qaeda groups..
If we helped the Rebels last year then things might of been different.
Maybe we should help the people and keep them safe from both side's but that is a truly impossible thing to do .
I'm also beginning to think the UN are hopeless ever since the days of the Serbia and Croatia conflict but thats another story i won't like to bring up !!!

I'm sure when do get involved there won't be any ground troop involvement !! if any it will be minimal ..

That's 4 PM's in a row who got into wars. If Iraq taught us anything it is we are fair game for being manipulated. It does sound like a setup much like in Iraq.

    Interesting day in Parliament.

    Short version from Dave himself;

"It's clear to me that the British parliament and the British people do not wish to see military action; I get that, and I will act accordingly."
The UK government has lost the vote on Syria by 285 votes to 272.
