Useful advice for males of the species...

While looking for an original present for me a while back, my wife happened upon the idea of animal adoption, and I am consequently the proud adopter of half a fruitbat (don't ask...) at Chester Zoo; I receive a regular newsletter as a consequence. I quote:

The Giant Indian Praying Mantis all successfully matured and several matings were achieved without loss of the males (females generally eat the male during the mating process). We managed to keep our males alive by constantly offering the females substantial food items to occupy them whilst this delicate process took place.

So...guys? Now you know.

On the plus side, a fruitbat sounds awesome. Have you been to visit it? Reminds me of that bat they used to have advertising Rowntree's fruit gums...was it called Kevin? Or am I just babbling?

Well, it's not like I have a named fruitbat - they have a huge free flight indoor area with dozens of them, so one can't point and say "There! That's Fred! No, the other one on the left!" - but I have certainly been to visit a couple of times; basically, I have half of one of THESE.
