How to win the competition ?

Hi i have been entering the competition lot of time but have never won any prices can any one tell me how actually it works i mean i know we got to answer the question and all stuffs but after that what ?how do they choose the winners etc.

There is almost definitely some sort of random selection process. These usually take the form of a random number picker software (or a box full of bits of paper with names on). There's nothing you can do to increase your odds (other than getting a free second entry on Facebook, if you use it).

I expect there are many thousands of people that enter the competitions, so the chances are pretty slim. You can't just expect to be owed a win just because you have entered a lot.

I've entered many competitions, and never won anything either. That's not at all unusual.

As for selecting winners, it's done at random from qualifying and cirrect entries.

To be clear, I have nothing to do with picking winners, but as I understand it, it goes like this ....

- wait for closing date, then close entries.
- from entries, pick one at random.
- does entry qualify under competition rules?
- if so, entry wins.
- do we need another winner? If so, repeat above.


As for "qualifying" entries, that varies from one competition to another, and as far as I know, is decided betweem HEXUS staff and the competition sponsor. For instance, it MIGHT only be open to forum members with more than x posts, though most are public, not forum only. It MIGHT be UK only, EU only, or world-wide. That will in the main competition post, where you entered. Some entries may be disallowed because they arrived after the closing time/date.

So, for any given competition, you have to meet the rules for THAT competition, and if you do, beyond that it's entirely random selection.

As how how to win, it's simple ....

1) Submit a vaid, qualifying entry
2) Be the lucky person selected.

1) is under your control. 2) is entirely random. You could win three times one after another, or never win anything .... just like you could with the national lottery.

From a purely curious/nerdy perspective, do 'we' know how many entries per competition there are?

Not that I'm aware of .... except for those that are "post in this thread" competitions for forum members.

I have no access to competition entries, or to how many entries there are. What little I do know is merely from conversation, almost in passing, with DR, in the past. And even then, the level of detail has been like

Me: "How many entries do competitions usually get?"

DR: "It varies. Some get thousands and thousands".

I couldn't even give an informed guess about any individual competition, other than 'forum' ones, as above.
