    Shove your 'energy savings'

    Dear Sir / Madam

Many thanks for your letter and your apparent ‘surprise’ at missing out on savings with npower.

I am writing to inform you that the reason for my cancellation of my npower contract 2308017148 was simple, I was mislead by your sales representative into signing up.

Had the representative been HONEST and told me that by switching to npower I would be paying less than my current supplier (SWEB) I would have no complaint, however this was not the case.

I was told by your representative that I would be retaining my current supplier (on 3 separate occasions when I questioned the process) and that the reason for signing up with npower was that the billing process would be changed and my direct debit details were required SIMPLY so that npower could pay the money I’d saved into my account.

Clever, very clever, however completely misleading and utterly dishonest and devious.

I won’t be signing up with npower simply because I feel this is an unacceptable practice and not how a competitive energy supplier should behave.

I will be contacting the Energy Ombudsman in due course.

    Kind regards

    John Morrey

Had a similer experiance the other day on the phone, someone trying to get me to change suppliers. I hung up after they refused to answer me straight about how much calls were. They just kept saying they were cheaper than BT... blah blah blahh

We have a bit of a history with british gas. When we were renting our first flat british gas made us pay a huge deposit, and then kept charging us more than we were using too. So in the end when we got fed up and changed supplier they owed us quite a lot of money, which took ages for them to return.

Then we bought a house, which was connected to british gas. Called swalec to say we would switch the house to them and got a switch date from them (31st march). Then called british gas to warn em, then again a day before switchover, asking for a final bill to be sent. Well, 2 bills arrived - one for the period between when we bought the house to 30th of March (about 900 units used), the other from 30th to 31st of March for, wait for it... over 3000 units!!! Wth were they smoking? 3k units overnight when we used 900 in a month and a half? We called em again and they were all "predicted usage" and so on. Had to call a number of times and in the end they sent the amended final bill of 0.00 with a prompt payment discount of 3.83 - for which they then sent us a cheque! We never cashed it iirc, coz i am sure if we did the muppets would then realise their error and get on a high horse. The amount of nerves we wasted on them... Those companies are a spawn of evil i tell you.

Put yourself on the telephone preference service to stop salesmen calling. One of my dads mates has also got an interesting way to get rid of annoying gits like this. If they ever call him up or come round to his door he goes utterly ballistic at them and bollocks them to kingdom come. The sheer look of horror on the faces of these salesmen! Eventually word started to get round about him and now no-one bothers him anymore!

Egg did something similar too, I "won" card payment protection free for 3 months, I told them, no, I didn't want it, and at the time I was ineligible anyway..

A couple of days later, a letter through the post.. "Dear Sir, Thank you for accepting the payment protection offer, blah blah blah"

Erm.. what?? I did no such thing, so I complained.. and complained loudly, eventually got a written apology from the head of the division..

4 weeks later I get another phone call, "congratulations, you've won.." at which point I told them to take me off whatever calling list I was on (again..), and if they ever called me again I'd be suing for breach of the data protection act.. oddly enough I've not had a call from them since..

But they do send me letters ever 2 weeks asking me if I want a loan, I think I'm going to save up a few months worth and post them back to someone important....

They email me roughly every 2 weeks as well, despite the fact I "unsubscribed" about 6 months ago..

We were signed up to Npowah without even knowing. Just got a letter out of the blue saying 'Thank you for joing Npower, yada, yada'. We knew nothing of this.

Turns out a friends son, who had visited us once, had gone back to Powerhouse (where he worked) and switched us to pocket the commission. I was apoplectic. Reported him/npower to every official body I could. (Ended up doing interviews on local and national radio).

Had to ring all our suppliers and tell them we didn't want to move. All that hassle so the little goit could pocket a tenner [guess]. Mind you, I got the little fraud the sack

I have a key meter in my rented flat, which is a bit of a PITA, but at least I'm saved all this nonsense.

N POWER CUT OFF MY DAD (HE LIVES IN A DIFFERENT COUNTY)!!!

I moved out of a house, gave my dads address to Npower as my "correspondence address".
Npower then went and changed my dads supply to Npower, just like that.
The 1st we knew of it was when he got a letter from his existing supplier telling him was going to be 'disconnected' in the next 14 days.
Needless to say we had to do a lot of leg work to piece together what was happening and then had a go at Npower....who couldn't give a cuss...
All this was back in 2000, glad to see they're still dodgy.

    ===================================================
The only good thing now is if I even sniff an Npower salesman I just say "You're a rip off, go away, you fraudsters, you lie, etc!" and then set the dogs on them...

Having worked in the Electricity indistry for the last year working for both a Supplier [Powergen] and a Meter Reading service [Siemens] you wouldn't believe how many story's I heard that are exactly like the ones posted above!

The Industry can be quite manipulative at getting its customers, its a shame it has to be this way because it just causes a lot of stress and a lot of angry people at the other end of the phone!
