It seems not the case anymore. I received one today and it was in two boxes.

There was a big song and dance about it on many tech websites last year about Amazon not packaging their HDDs well enough. Even on some recent Amazon.co.uk reviews there is noise about bad packaging of hard drives, especially it seems for WD drives.
I've never bought an HDD from Amazon but I've received a few items that were poorly packed, the most recent example was a pair of bare sunglasses that were stuffed in to a flat cardboard sleeve which arrived crushed to smithereens.
I question the work ethic of the people employed in the Amazon.co.uk warehouse.
As far as I can tell, they are all in the US. Just took a quick look at my history on Amazon UK and have had 3 over the last 2 years. All have been in a cardboard box with a fair bit of padding.
Duno then
If you look at some of the hard drive reviews on Amazon UK,there are complaints of poor packing, and even mention of avoiding Amazon for HDDs on some forums. I was just posting my experience which was contrary to that!!
Edit!!
Having said that most seem to be about WD drives.
Interesting.
The best way to package a Hard drive is to have in the plastic cakebox that they used to come in sometime ago during the Spinpoint era.
Scan / OcUK arn't the best for their HDD packing imho - tend to just be in a anti static bag with bubble wrap around it then in 'jiffy bag' or thats how the last few have come.
When my HDD was delivered it was loose in a thin white box, only about a month ago. Luckily it didn't do any damage. It was a big surprise when i started it up.
I got my Samsung 840 EVO in the similar packaging I got my eye mask in. No bubble wraps, nothing. The postman just dropped the small cardboard package through the door....

mine was squished by scrunched up paper at the bottom of the box.
