Some of the captcha codes I've been trying to enter recently are just impossible to read. I simply cannot work out what they are, nor can my mother or anyone else that I've asked. What's the point of having them if no one can read them?!

The point is to make it harder for spambots to get through, but unfortunately at the same time it tends to make things harder for many humans to get through too.
It's just an absolute pain. Sometimes, I have to refresh the image 20 times before I can work out what it says. No point trying with audio, sounds like a possessed demonic goat.
I know the feeling, having to refresh the image loads of times till I get one I can actually understand and read it, can be a pain at times but it does stop the spammers
They suck - I waste so much time on them. The worst ones are those with noise in the background to make it worse, or the case sensitive ones where telling if it is upper or lower case W (for example) is almost impossible.
There is simply a much better way to do it too. Have a 5x5 grid of pictures of 22 dogs and 3 rabbits. Get human to click on the rabbits. Almost impossible for spambot, easy for humans.
There are people who are hired to do nothing but enter capthca codes so spammers can use their bots to sign upto things. Guess it's to make it more awkward for them, but it's acting like DRM in that genuine people have nothing but contempt for its existance.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
The ones I really hate are the Capatcha codes which when you fail, introduce a new element onto the screen but out of view, so when you fail again, it's because of the new element.

This is bunny and friends. He is fed up waiting for everyone to help him out, and decided to help himself instead!
Google already demonstrated cat-based recognition.
