Strange Text Messages, Anyone Else Getting

The other week I got a SMS (Text) message saying "Have a hug x" this was from a number I did not know.

I did a search on the number and did not come up with a match but people did report spammers sending out such messages for you to reply to so they know the number is still working.

Today I got the message
"Wishing you the special magic and wonder
That only a Christmas can bring.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Wishing you together times, Carols sung with ageless rhymes,
Scents of pine and pumpkin pies, and good nights with contented sighs
Have a joyful holiday and a Great New Year"

Any one else getting this type of SMS or is it a long lost friend?

I'm not getting them. Well, not that I know of, anyway. Mind you, anyone that knows me well enough to text me knows better than to do so. I don't do texts. Periodically, I just block delete any that have arrived, because I never read them. When I did, most of them were just Orange offering me some "special" that I didn't want, despite me repeatedly asking them to bleeping well stop .... for all the notice they took. Or my pizza place pestering me, despite asking them to stop. So I stopped using that pizza firm instead.

So I wouldn't necessarily know anyway, if I had received any.

I used to get calls and texts all the time, but now with twitter and other messaging app's no one every call's, but I am still in contact with lots of people.

Guessing a call blocker app just hides said calls, I am the type of person that likes reports and knows what is going on.

One bright side to this is, I have been texting and calling friends which I have not spoken to for sometime to check their number. I now have a couple of parties to go to :-)

Advice on spam texts from another forum I frequent:

Ignore the text, forward it and the number it came from to 7726 (SPAM in T9 text) - they are a service that gathers spam text and apparently blocks them.

Phone the number, see who answers, they're almost definitely not junk messages as there's no financial gain for the people sending them

I found this on Who Calls Me it is not the same number apart from the "07557" start but it is in the same style.

How r u 2 today

Have no idea who it is from therefore will not respond just in case it trying to find out if it's active and bombard me with rubbish!

Well given that 07557 is a block of numbers assigned to Vodafone, having the area code turn up on a nuisance call site is not a strong enough conicidence.

Just call the number back or text them back going "who are you?"

Can't you just reply with "Sorry, new phone, who is this?"... Dilemma solved

Or you can save the number, re-sync your WhatsApp contacts, see if they are in your list and have a profile picture, then you can figure out from there? </stalker>
