Amazon removes access to paid-for content on the orders of Disney

    http://www.theguardian.com/technolog...ep-and-landing

Seems like Disney wanted people to watch Prep & Landing on their channels only, people who have paid for access to the short animation via Amazon found they can no longer watch it.

It's unclear what refund/compensation policy (if any) is in place.

Do I even need to write any more?

Not really. This is one reason, though by no means the only one, why I won't use Steam - I'm not paying out sometimes substantial sums for games when my ability to play/access them can be withdrawn at any time. It's the same logic.

Each to his/her own, but personally, I'll simply do without whatever game, film, etc, rather than go that route.

If I buy a film, it WILL be on some medium (DVD or whatever) where I can play it in 6 months or ten years without needing some corporation's permission to play what I've already paid for. The same (for me) applies to MS' plans for XBO needing 24/7 internet access, or to Office 365, or to Adobe only selling Photoshop CS6's successor via a subscription model. Not going there, period.

At least with subscription models though, the pricing reflects the fact that it could be revoked at any time. If my backup service folded one day, and I lost the £25 or whatever remaining on my subscription, then that's not too bad.

The thought of Steam going under though... that's truly scary.

Oh, I'm not saying the subscription model is bad, per se. My brother signed up to Adobe's CC for Photoshop. Now, though, he's looking for a deal on CS6 and to dump the subscription.

But for me, I'm not going subscription for games, or Photoshop, etc, even if with Steam the monthly cost is £0. With Steam, there's several reasons why I won't, but the DRM is the biggest. As for Steam going under, well, who would have thought General Motors, or RBS, could fail? But .....

The big media companies don't seem to get that they need to work hard on building customer trust to stop people pirating stuff. Once again the pirates will have better service than the legit paying customers.

The time I have to waste waiting and pressing buttons until the disney movie actually starts makes me think pirates do get a better product.

Re: Amazon removes access to paid-for content on the orders of Disney

Might be worth clarifying the title, Disney removed the content on Amazon's platform, and to their credit Amazon did give them credit for the sucky TOS they had to comply with

Source of the article where it says they were given a "very generous credit":
