    Anyone used / bought from....

    http://www.lowestonweb.com ?

It seems to be a type of kelkoo or price finder. But it returns cheap prices!!

I was looking for some speakers for my PC (see in Film / Home Entertainment forum) and I searched google.

It came back with the following results.

I like the look / sound of the Creative Inspire 6.1 6700's, but the Creative I-Trigue 2.1 (3300) look fantastic. They are also more powerful, with a remote control too

Has anyone here used them? Heard any bad things about them?

    Any input welcome!

    Nick

As Lead-Head pointed out, this is a branding operation that is part of Evesham.com.

Evesham is one of the longest established and most reputable PC brands in the UK (company formed in 1983) and personally I would have no hesitation in dealing with them whatsoever. Their reputation, however, is for good value but not for 'cheap'.

I've known Evesham's Marketing Director for more than a decade and have just had a word with her about this, and been assured that it IS part of their operation, but that they are seeking to avoid confusing people by separting the brands. Evesham aims to be high quality at good prices, but not 'cheap'. They do not aim to compete with box-shifters.

Reading between the lines, therefore, the branding at lowestonweb.com says you will get low prices, but not necessarily the degree of customer support and hand-holding you would expect at a premium brand, like Evesham.

My interpretation is that with this operation they are targetting DABS, Watford Electronics and so forth, rather than medium or high end PC builders.

Rest assured, this is not some fly-by-night operation.

That wasn't quite what I said, or at least, not what I meant.

You will often get more extensive customer support from a high-end operation than you will from a box-shifter. The reason simply being that box-shifters cut margins in order to be able to cut prices, and one of the things that suffers is support. Support is, after all, VERY expensive to provide.

I have no reason to expect support to be any worse than other SIMILAR operations, but it would not surprise me to find it is not as good as Evesham. If you buy a product that is faulty, I'd expect them to have procedures as good as anybody else for returning the product, but would not expect to get a support person spending 30 minutes on the phone guiding me through how to install a DVD writer, or how to edit a video.

If you want a video-editing system and want to be sure all the components are compatible and work well together, Evesham is one of the places I'd recommend looking for a ready-built system. But I wouldn't rely on any box-shifting operation to tell me whether a given capture card will work with a given video card.

If you need extensive support, don't buy from a box-shifter. If you want the cheapest prices, don't expect premium-grade hand-holding. Thats all I meant.

I haven't bought from lowsetonweb.com so I have no idea what their support is like. If I needed something, and they had it and their price was competitive, I'd have no hesitation in dealng with them though.

    k m8, I got you now!

Kinda like Play.com, they get the stuff cheap and sell em on cheap! Basically a big warehouse + a computer

Think I'm gonna order those 2.1 speakers 1st week of October!

Lets hope the price is held / falls even lower!
