Next time you mock someone for being a christian...

Im not really sure exactly what point I want to get across, but I thought I had to tell someone anyway, and this seemed an appropriate thread title...

Anyway, one of my friends is currently working as a missionary in Cyprus. As part of this he meets with foreign students etc, and one of these happens to be a muslim convert.

Anyway, his family found out yesterday. He has been hauled off home, and is now on trial for the crime of "conversion to christianity".

If 'convicted', he is due to be beheaded tomorrow, by his own family.

    Christianity isnt always fun...

Shows how backward and blinded some people can be. In Islam, killing another human is the highest sin. However, some fanatics interpret this to: Killing another Muslim is the highest sin.

Same old story from the inquisition, crusades, Jihad, etc. People never learn

    Sorted out my PMs.

Latest news is that somehow he's escaped and is being hunted down by his family etc over there. I don't really know how we know all this, but my friend in Cyprus is a complete wreck...

This isn't uncommon, many people who turn their back on their faith often get hunted down, or outcast by their families for turning to Christianity.

Come on - everyone knows that virtually every war for the last 2000 years was started by religion or the dislike of another religeon.

The world would be a far better, safer and more propsperous place with science as our religeon......

Thats not true at all. Wars have been as a dislike of a people for another people, or for land. People have just defined their 'people' by their religion in the past, and hardly any of those wars has been started as a pure result or religion with no political influence.

I disagree, the politics of religionhas been responsible for many wars. The easiest way to motivate a mass of people, especially a superstitious mass of people is to engineer their beliefs. Religion itself is not to blame. As usual it is peoples interpretation of it.

Most wars of the 20th century have been political. If we move to science we will have wars over scientific theory. Not because there is anything wrong with it. Simply because human beings cannot agree and will resort to violence in the last instance to get their point across. Or even to steal a scientific advance.

People will always find a reason to attack other people.
