yeh, according to my gf it was something to do with god liking him (and some of the people in the beginning of the bible - read genesis) and the fact they needed to live for a long time to populate the world.. but dont hold me to that

Digging deep into memory now but the early people lived for extremely long periods, Adam was over 900, until God basically put a cap on it (Methuselah was a mere pup at around 850 when he popped his clogs). I think the cap was imposed because people being as daft as they are were taking advantage of this long lifespan so God gave us a much shorter time in which to screw things up. That and the fact that he could see a population problem if we were all going to go on until our late 900s

Another theory that I just thought up all on my lonesome whilst writing this is that someone made an ancient typo and a punctuation mark was read as a zero. Which would make Noah 95 when he died. Assuming of course that Arabic numerals or a similar decimal system were in use in the original.

Have I messed with your head enough yet? or shall I unplug you from the matrix and really screw with your grey matter?

Actually God never put a cap on anything. Death entered the world as a result of mans sin against God. The fact is if we look down the line, lifespans of humans are getting a lot shorter than they used to be. If it were not for the medical care we have today, people would be living a lot shorter than they are.

    But for your quote Zak,

Genesis 9:29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

    No guidance needed!

This is true, people back then lived to be well over 600 years old. It says so in the Bible.

There ya go. God capped us because we were screwing things up.

Don't think I could put up with this place for 600 years though. 60 will be bad enough. Talk about a blessing in disguise.

ah but in 6 hundred years you could be retired in a far more interesting place like a nice asteriod of your own, personally if i lived for 900 years i would annex the moon and start a proper free world, with no money concerns because everyone could live off cheese - with entrance exams (not hard ones just common sense ones to stop bush supporters getting in).
