This is going to be a funny one. I wonder how much redundancy they build into these systems. I've always disliked the fact railways seldom embrace packet switching.

I bet they are, what is the drying time of this stuff? Does that 2nd pic show a hole in the wall where maybe that stuff got into the room by accident or did they actually mean to fill it?They are trying to get it out asap

Yeah they need to get sheeting or whatever they can asap to block it off from the switching kit.

well yes, but just with really free flowing rapid-hardening concrete. Sets like err concrete. As cock ups go this beats those guys piling through into the overground tunnel the other month. Man this is going to take yonks to get it out. That stuff sets in a few hours. By 24 hours it is seriously hard and the longer it goes on the harder it gets. And when it's wet it's corrosive to your skin and can cause burns. The wrong kinds of mix use an aluminium compound that can even cause release of hydrogen gas. That's not true. As I hear on a daily basis "items left unattended may be removed and destroyed without warning" . Sounds like packet switching to me. Thinking about it this could be why Royal Mail stopped using their underground line - and why so many parcels used to go AWOL.
And the equipment looks quite old, so replacing the damaged stuff like-for-like or just swap out might not be possible - so it may need to be replaced with custom engineered relay replacement modules (which will need extensive testing) or there may be a decision to update it with more modern signalling equipment (more time, more testing).
This could er... run on and on - unlike the Victoria line - for some time.

Worrying how there's zero redundancy outside that room for critical safety equipment. In an ideal world you should be able to take out the main signalling controls, and have backup equipment in place that can take over.

And not really an engineering cock-up, I doubt any engineers were involved in the pouring, more likely a contractor error or lack of supervision/adequate survey.
But I see initial reports and prophecies of doom and gloom (including my own) have been overblown, and Londoners can now get back to the deep joy of their daily subterranean commute and the Victoria line lives to fail another day.

Isn't this a standard solution though? They pour grout into road voids all the time and it's pretty unpredictable how deep the rabbit hole goes or where the liquid solution will alight. They got unlucky this time but who cares it's only London nowhere else enjoys an underground system of convenient transportation.

I can't say whether he thinks its amusing or not, but if you mean sure about being first, then yes, it was. Paddington - farringdon opened before any other metro system, underground or otherwise.
