    Re: Holidays, holidays

    If I am truthful:

I graduated with a teaching degree in 2012. I then completed my registration for full teaching status last June. I am now fully qualified and teaching full time. I originally thought when I was young and naive that a teachers salary was LOADS and I would be able to tour the world every summer.

However, real life, bills etc means its not really! While at university (both of my honors degree and then my post grad teaching) I borrowed money (especially for my PGDE when I had to study in another country) which means I owe quite a lot.

My current order of preferences are:

    1) Pay off credit cards and loans (about £600 a month out of my £1500 (After tax etc) salary.
    2) Buy a house
    3) Get married to my fiancee.

I have outlined that it will take me another 18 months or so to pay off my debt. 2 years for a house and then 1 years for the wedding. I am committed to doing this. So (much to my fiancees annoyance as she does not have debt) to make sure I do this I can not afford to go on holidays.

After I pay off my loans each month (plus extra), bills or private renting etc and fuel I am left with roughly £120 a month. Not a lot really.

This isn't a post for me to whinge and yap. I got the credit cards. I bought the speakers, computers and tv's etc. So I am paying off. So in answer to the OP, I am going nowhere for a while and I am happy with this. In the long run I will get on many holidays if I am lucky. For now I just have to suck it up and get my s*** sorted

mate, get wedded. Worry about the house after that. And don't go crazy worrying about having a big wedding. They're not cheap things, but you don't have to spend gazillions on them

    Re: Holidays, holidays

Off for a few days down in Dorset in July, probably going to be a beach type affair which is always nice! I just love getting the time to get some proper reading done when I go away. Also trying to get a weekend in Paris or Venice or such like with the missus at some point however student finances may well get in the way I fear!

Looking forward to it, chance to get out, do a bit of shopping, sight-seeing and whisky drinking. Didn't fancy lying around on a beach, and anything more actiony like hiking would drive my partner crazy!
It's a bloomin' lovely city, I'd love to get up there for the Fringe this year but I don't think finances will stretch to cover the hotel (we stayed in Glasgow last year and commuted each day, don't fancy that again as it meant missing Set List among other late-night goodness). One thing to bear in mind about Edinburgh is that it's not a place to go if you want to avoid physical exercise: it somehow manages to be uphill both there and back!

Whereabouts in India? Have read mixed reports. Have been tempted to go motorcycling on an old Enfield but stories of robbery / Delhi belly etc put me off a bit.

    Re: Holidays, holidays

Mid November I did the S.F - L.A - Vegas triangle (with the Hoover Dam & Grand Canyon detours)

Then a month or so ago, got back from spending a week exploring Chernobyl and the surrounding areas, with a brief look round Kiev.

Off for a long weekend with sun, sun, sun on the menu in Spain beginning of July, then the tail end of July I'm flying out to NYC and roadtripping up to Canada then back to New York catching my plane home. Quite a busy time ahead!

I'm writing this n the train from Gatwick - just landed from Geneva.

A variety of holidays, although (perhaps not surprisingly) the majority seem to be 'action' holidays!

Keep 'em coming, we have some well travelled HEXITES here

    Re: Holidays, holidays

Father has a place down in Spain that we usually go to (southern Spain Portugal boreder), and we fly to faro. However recently, prices have sky rocketed, as well as hire car rental, and it can cost well over a grand for 2 weeks for the four of us - and we own the house! I used to live in Spain, and did do for 6 years. Weather isn't quite the same here in the UK.. I am fancying a trip out there soon, but prices are to high

Walking the Viking Way in stages with friends in July. Then over to Wroclaw, Prague and either Kolobrzeg or Mazury with family and friends.
