Well it was a bit interesting...

There was a mess up so I missed my flight to Rome on Friday night, no space on the next flight so I decided to buy a £50 flight to Milan on Saturday morning.

Landed at 9:30am - spend the day in Milan just wondering around in the Sun and then jumped on a high-speed train to Rome (less than 3 hours) and then did Saturday night, Sunday, Monday in Rome and the plan was to fly out on Tuesday morning at 6am and land in time for work... flight was delayed for 6.5 hours tho so that went out of the window.

Did the main city sights in Rome on Sunday (very impressive, the scale is just unbelievable) and then tried to go down to Ostia Antica (old Rome port) on Monday but the excavation sight was closed so just ended up wondering around the beach and enjoying the Sun/Beer/Beach/Sea Food

Very felt overly rushed, saw loads and still loads to see if I ever fancy going back as I didn't get to the Vatican or get to explore the ruins at Ostia.

Thats awesome Dooms! Milan and Rome sound pretty cool to explore. Perhaps when I finish my senior year in High School I'll visit these places. It sucks still being so young to where I can't do these things yet.

Great place isn't it? Visited Ostia a few years ago - by far the best Roman ruins site I've ever been to. Even better IMO than the forum/amphitheatre in Rome itself. And literally there was only myself and the wife in it. Did ancient history and Latin at school so the significance of the place can't be understated. Havbn't been to Pompeii yet though - one for my bucket list now i think about it.

Another place I want to go to is Neuschwanstein - the mad fairytale castle.

5 months NZ - Kiwi Fruit packing shed, more beach bum.
7 months London to Kuala Lumpur without flying - no work except a couple weeks teaching English in China, lots of exploring.
7 months on Roatan as a PADI divemaster / instructor. Was mainly work but all good fun!
7 months in Canada - failing to get IT job and end up as a Lifty at a ski resort, learning to Ski and Snowboard while living with some awesome people.

That has been on hold for the last 13 months as I got an extended contract I couldn't turn down so I've been doing more long weekends as I can. Snowboarding in Bulgaria last feb, Snowboarding Scotland in March, Dublin for tourist and drinking last month, Rome next weekend.

Big plans for 14-18 months out of the country when this current contract ends
pretty much the style i am about to adopt soon now that i am single and doing contract work.

    Re: Holidays, holidays

Man Dooms' thread is giving me the wanderlust again. Got kids now, but before the mrs and I went on an 18 month RTW trip through Africa, Asia, Australasia, and South America.

Suspect we'll be heading off to Majorca or similar now we're bound to school holidays and short flights. That being said I have entered Ironman Melbourne, so at least there will be some winter sun!

Go for it! The whole time I sit in the UK I plan my next escape.

I do indeed travel alone, staying in hostels means you are always meeting fellow backpackers and its surprising how often you bump into people you've met before.

I'm currently trying to get together enough money before this contract expires to get out for at least 14 months with the following plan:

    Starting April!
    Japan: 1 Month
    New Zealand: 3 Months
    Indonesia: 1 Month
    Philippines: 1 Month
    Singapore: 1-2 Weeks
    Malaysia: 1 Month
    Thailand: 1 Month
Laos & Cambodia: 1 month between them
    Sri Lanka: 1-2 Weeks
    India: 2 Months
    Nepal: 1 Month
    China: 2 Months

With would be generally without working but maybe some PADI divemater/instructor work in South East Asia if I find somewhere I would like to stay for a while.

Random stuff from my travels is on www.leonslost.co.uk however I'm in the middle of moving old blog onto new so formatting and content is very messed up

    Re: Holidays, holidays

    We hired

the blue one on the Norfolk Broads a couple of weeks ago, fantastic holiday. Spent a bit of time cruising, moored in the middle no where, or in towns / villages, also spent on day in Norwich (used train from Wroxham). Very relaxing holiday, read 3 books, took my canoe , kayak thing , had some excellent food and drink, took loads of photos.
