DVD Fast Forwarding to be banned?!!!!

    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=19801 from there.

I get annoyed when I read stuff like that. It annoys me even more knowing that if a law like that happens in the US it will affect us.

    Crazy world is getting crazier...

    That sounds utterly ridiculous...

So, according to the advertisers, it's their right to force us to watch the adverts they have paid for before we can watch the film we have paid for?

It will start as only in the US but as soon as advertisers realise they could implement it over here it will be.

****ing sitting through 5 minutes of adverts and trailers to watch one film? No thanks. I already have an intense hatred of DVD's with trailers at the start, even though you can skip them, but if I am prevented from this, the dvd will be smased in anger

That and encoding dvds on to your pc, which may lead to an increase in pirating...

Simple way around it is to start boycotting everything DVD based, that would make everyone stand up and take notice..

    it's already the case, though

dvd sections can be marked as unskippable - things like the legal warning at the start make use of the flag. disney dvds tend to heavily abuse the tag, as have some 80s nostalgia dvds i own

Aaargh, Disney DVDs SUCK for that - I hate watching Disney films on other peoples' DVD players, as my Toshiba allows you to jump to the root menu, as does PowerDVD

Forced ads + RCE are bloody awful ideas, good job they can be circumvented on some drives

terrible - ut dvd advert fast fowarders in the same league as dvd pirates!?!!?

they are seriously dumbasses - i doubt they could arrest prosecute you and send u to jail for skipping adverts - firstly id like to see them prove you skipping ads, and secondly enforce it - they shud NEVER make unskippable adverts on dvds, you pay good money for the film, to see the FILM

not so see a bunch of crappy ads - itll put me off buying dvds for a start if they did it - 20 quid for a film is more than enough, if they want us to watch the ads, force us to see them, the ad companies should subsidise the cost of the disk

Thing is people will just go and download a version with the adverts ripped out of it.

Good way to cut down piracy then.

It is kind of worrying from a propaganda/public freedom point of view .
