    Mobile scam

My girlfriend keeps getting these calls from an 008645276123** number, The last two digits seem to change randomly every call. Her cousin has told her that he's heard of a scam when people call and take your credit. I have noticed it is now very difficult to get her on her mobile and sometimes when I ring a recorded americans voices repeats her number and then says the number is unavailable. It's very odd because it's an italian mobile and she is in italy. Does anyone know of a scam like this. I think the number calling her is from China?

Hmm one thing that i don't understand is usually when you get dialled by a international call doesn't it go +86?, rather than putting 00 on the front?. IF the calls are annoying she should speak to the network operators out in italy and see if she can get them to do something about it.

Are you sure the recorded message saying her mobile isn't available isn't an option that determines that you are phoning from the UK and plays back in English all be it with an american accent that her phone is not available?.

I work in the telephone industry and if it was possible to steal credit from phones without user interaction i'd still love to know how

There is a new one I've heard of where they call you but hang up. You (maybe) ring back and get whacked on a premium rate line to hear a recorded message telling you the call was telemarketing and you have to take no action and then explaining (at great length) how to avoid getting these calls in future by registering with TPS.... all the while you're being charged £1.50 a minute...

It has the 00 in front and she did call back and she could just hear random noise in the background apparently. I guess that is probably where her credit went.
    Thanks guys

Well she reckon that's what she has. I guess I find out as she's coming to visit me tomorrow. I can have a look.
