Re: Why is it there are £10 sunglasses, and £110 sunglasses that look very similar,
Woo glad I saw this thread.
Looking for a little help,
I really like the Ray Bans Aviator glasses. Where is the cheapest place to get them with prescribed lenses? :P
Re: Why is it there are £10 sunglasses, and £110 sunglasses that look very similar,
Bit late to this thread but I will add my 2 cents...
Recently bought some Ray Ban from Amazon.com for only around £60. Compared to most high street retailers its half price!
They take around 5 days to arrive from USA. All tax and shipping is worked out at checkout so no nasty surprise custom charges by the postman.
I bought a pair of New Wayfarers and Aviator, and can report that they are 100% genuine, just make sure you buy them directly from Amazon not a 3rd Party.
Re: Why is it there are £10 sunglasses, and £110 sunglasses that look very similar,
You could buy the frames then take them to an opticians, but it seems a shame as a large part of the cost of the sunnies is probably the lens. A lot of opticians are starting to do frames from 'sunglasses people', Oakley, Ray-Ban etc, so you could probably go to one of those and get prescription sunglass lenses put in.
I always go with contact lenses and normal sunnies though, can't be bothered with all the changing specs when you go into somewhere dark...

I have a couple pairs I got with my snow goggles at the beginning of the year. LOVE my goggles and the sunnys aren't bad either ;)
Re: Why is it there are £10 sunglasses, and £110 sunglasses that look very similar,
Thanks Dooms, I might give them a go as I could use some new cheap-ish sunglasses for the car

I was up at Everest Base camp in 2010 and you really do need UV protection, my Oakley Monster Dog shades did the job nicely! They were normally around the £100 mark, but I got them for £60 online. Just don't sit on the things! I got them from this store:

I have bought 2 pair of Oakley from them 2 years ago for less than £50 each and they were legit
Re: Why is it there are £10 sunglasses, and £110 sunglasses that look very similar,
You pay for a name basically.
Re: Why is it there are £10 sunglasses, and £110 sunglasses that look very similar,
It's not that simple, because the £10 ones are miles away from the quality of the branded ones, especially with the plastic Vs glass lens comparison.
So, still looking for ~£30 glasses with glass lens and decent (current) style
