I decided to create a *.rar file to backup my data on one of my seagates... The files size is 127 gigs... It should be done in 32 hours! So whats the bigest file you ever ziped or rar'ed or what ever...

Erm.
Why the hell are you backing up your whole hard drive to 1 file? That kinda defeats the point of backing up.
lol, and the point of that was?, why not backup each section onto DVD or something usuable so if your computer catches fire you've got an external copy?. Plus you sure your windows setup will stay up and not go non responsive while its doing all that work???.

Not much smaller than when it was uncompressed I imagine

I don't think video compresses that much.

I do it. Creating a ghost backup of the whole drive. This way you never have to format if you screw your install up. So technically, the biggest load of files i've had to compress is my hard drive which wasn't big at the time.Originally Posted by Caged
Exciting stuff, this.
What is the most pointless thread you have pointlessly experienced... pointlessly?
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

under your VERY VERY messed up US Law, you dont own your DVD's. you own a liscence to watch the film, and that does not permit you to "back-up" any of the DVD's you brought.
hope you found this usefull.
and if not, who cares
